Evening all.
Yes, I am still alive, but have just been taking a break, largely due to pressures of work.
If any of you ever thought (like me) that the internet connections in the UK could be slow, try visiting Luxembourg....appears to be largely steam powered. This is the first time I have managed to log on in the last 3 days....and it probably won't last!
So named after a WWII fighter bomber....I'm tempted to say Mosquito, but of the light aircraft that bear that name, none seem to match the challenge.
Would it be American LM?

Good evening LM and great to see you Ken
Been tied up with work all afternoon, road closed on the way home and lon diversion!!
Putting all those latest juicy clues together I have found Adalbert Schmidt's
1939 Schmid Kleinflugzeug Mücke (Mosquito) aircraft ?
Schmid built lots of ornithopters, he made a lightplane called Mosquito and there's a mucke(r) in the name to boot 'cos it's in German

Hi Sinco....thanks for the welcome.
Well I'm sure you've got it. Having given up on Mosquito I was researching Lippisch designs. Guess I never thought of a German translation of Mosquito!

Youre very welcome Ken, sorry to hear about the connections!
Have you got anything to put up as I'm struggling to sort something out, but it's not easy with MS Paint on a mini-laptop!
I tried German as soon as I got in and I saw LM's Aussie chant and realised ah, mosquito!! Then found the Pause Mucke, but no pictures or description anywhere, then Wiki said the Pause had a Hirth inline, so I started goggling around Mucke and Ornithopters and found Schmidt (who had worked for Pause Modellwerke) and came across a drawing that had a different fin/rudder, but kept scrolling down and found LM's picture!
Heaven knows how he found it in the first place or found time to look, what with doing all those bloy posts

Afraid the connection speed would prohibit any upload. As it is its taken me 10 mins from log in to get this far! Thanks for the thought though.
Anyway good research on the Mucke....have finally managed to get a picture although the 3 view on the website where I found it appears to bear no relation to the photo. Certainly a good find though.
I'll try to stay logged in for the next hour or so, although maybe LM is having his beauty sleep!

To paraphrase the man himself wheressagone LM.........?????????
Sorry Ken, I think he must have gone all misty-eyed over the Lightning piccies (and very good they are too) on the Lightning thread and gone off to console himself!!
I wondered if the connection speed might be a problem for you, Ive managed to cobble one together now, so I'm ready to go as soon as David gives the go!
Here's where I found the picture, no point in being cagey about it as it's a well known site!

Yes indeed! Fortunately, I've learned the hard way, to keep on scrolling right to the end as there's often something to discourage the search near the top and if it's coming in by drip-feed on a lousy connection it's a temptation to discount it and move on.
I hope that you have a good trip home
BTW, in case you haven't had a chance to look back quite a few pages, Reg is away for the week, having a close encounter with an Elk (of the culinary kind it seems), in Iceland I believe! -29C when last reported in

Thanks for the info....I'll take a look back over the last few weeks when I have better speed available. Trying to imagine what a culinary Elk is....I didn't know they were so discerning with their food! Caribou on the other hand......!!
Aircraft named after species of Deer....a new challenge. Can't think of any Elk aircraft although there was of course the Westland Wapiti, the latter being another name for the Elk!
Going to call it a night soon, so catch up with you another day. Cheers

Sorry guys - just got back.

Thanks LM,
Good challenge mate! I would never have found it without those last couple of clues, and you called my last one elusive!!
I'd like to ring the changes with something really fast, like the Command Module of an Apollo moonship, but like I said to Ken, I can hardly reach for the stars with the kit I've got on this tiddly lap-top, far too much like hard work!!
At the moment I'm choosing pictures with a sky background as they're easier to fudge into some sort of of silhouette without too much touch-pad finger gymnastics!
So I'm sorry, but I'm going to add another one to my string of boring bipes! This manufacturer also made a triplane and a seaplane in pretty quick succession.
WARNING: although carefully prepared, not guaranteed 100% waffle, may contain clues!
BTW LM, congratulations on your 6K-hood!!

1912 Astra Type CM biplane, although mine is heading in a different direction...
Clues? What clues? First thought was the Avro 500. No go. Then tried the Bristol G.E 2. Again, no go, but when I clicked on images, there it was!
Pure luck.
Welcome back Ken!

G'day Graeme,
Reaching for the stars = Astra as in the motto of the RAF. Apollo Command Module was known as the CM and finally adding another one to my string of bipes, I have just done 1910 and 1911 so this one is 1912.
All this adds up to Astra Type CM biplane 1912. But I really needn't have bothered should I (still it was something to think about while talking to Ken and waiting for David to confirm
Thats coz you're in the Southern Hemisphere mate, like the bathwater innit.
Well done mate!! Noyade has control
Time for my bed....G'nite mate
