Mel,
Interesting question. The power plant, from what I read, should have been an Isotta Fraschini Zeta, with 24 cylinders, indeed, in X configuration (IIRC). But I may be wrong.
In about two hours from now I will give the clue -- also because it was by far not a silhouette -- and will let you continue this marvelous thread (I am always open to - and thankful for - corrections, whenever it is needed)

All the best,
Paolo

Sorry, Tu.114 - it was not a Caproni design (unless the designers were copying each other).

Paolo

The above aircraft, the Caproni F6MZ, was fitted with the 24-cylinder engine Isotta-Fraschini RC.25/60 Zeta power of 1250 hp Only two aircraft of the type were built but only one was completed. However it is not the aircraft you are after.
Your challenge is an intriguingone.

It was the design of Ing. Rossi, chief of the Technical Office of the S.A.I. in Passignano (at the Trasimeno lake), for a "full metal" fighter that was to be named S.A.I. Ambrosini 404
(from the project: "VELIVOLO S.A.I. AMBROSINI 404")
Even though interesting characteristics were evident from the papers, the aircraft was never built.

I hereby declare that the current challenge is technically won by Mel ,
who has control!

(Tomorrow evening I will be off for an eight days vacancy to my Trasimeno lake :-))

Good continuation to all,
Paolo

Very very interesting Vonbag.
I was totally unaware of this project (and yet beautiful Trasimeno Lake is only 20 kms from my residence!).Just for the sake of curiosity in Passignano (on lake Trasimeno) you still see some remains of the old industrial compound from where significant aircrafts took off or where built.

Any chance that poor quality silhouette could be a Polikarpov R-Z? (Equally poor quality photo below).

Thanks for the welcome!
Ideally they should be silhouettes? But line drawings are acceptable? (I've been looking through past pages). Lastly, must there be three separate views of the aircraft in question?

Here's mine...

I reckon there's a lot of flexibility as you will have seen from past posts - but someone will tell you if they think otherwise !

Meanwhile , SIPA S-1100 ?

Welcome, Doug

Thanks for the welcome and the answers!

Yeah, the SIPA 1100 from a 1958 edition of RAF Flying Review who wrote...
"In appearance it would not have looked out of place twenty years ago"
And this is where I say "you have control".

G'day Doug.

The photographic version of the PZL MD-12 (below)? The PZL MD-12F?

If correct - open house; I will be away from the computer the next days.

EvansB,

would that be the Junkers 187 dive bomber?

If correct, open house again - i dwell in the hotel at the moment and have no access to interesting pictures.

Yes, you are corect. The planned Ju.187 featured a moveable tail unit so the aft facing gun could be fired unobstructed.

Next Challenger

Gentlemen
I believe the honour to post the next challenge rests with Noyade, as he, I believe correctly identified the PZL MD-12 at Post # 1999 (9:52) before Tu.114 at Post # 2000 (11:16).
