Flying Signman and saracenman,

You both give sketchy details of these 'changes' that have occurred with this fiasco, but neither of you seem to grasp or appreciate the biggest problem with the project, and that is Robert Plemings contempt for the public.

On three occassions they have bailed out this fiasco at the 12th hour, and he still refuses to come onto a public forum/web site and thank anyone. As of 5.30 this morning, even his own website had still not been updated from the message that was put on it almost a week ago, when the final total was raised.

I don't want any thanks myself - I'm quite happy to say that I'm one of the many people that have stopped giving anymore money to the project in its current state, but the thousands of others who saved it on this last occasion certainly do deserve at least a comment from the top man.

Its a joke frankly. Infact its beyond a joke as far as I'm concerned. Robert pleming might well be a clever guy and a nice chap, but he obviously lacks the management skills that are needed by the man at the top of a project such as this that has relied so heavily on public donations and where he still cannot bring himself to say a simple 'thank you everyone'

If there is one change that should be made to this project to improve matters immensly, its to get rid of him. Sorry, but it time for him to go.

So let me get this straight. Some of you are whinging because Dr P hasn't come on here and personally thanked you for helping bail out 558. Wasn't there a press conference last Friday where as CEO he did just that??

What makes you more special than everybody else to warrant a personal appearance??

If I'm following your line of thinking correctly then I should be kicking up a stink because Dr P hasn't phoned me up personally and thanked me for my pledge.

Some people really are up themselves

Speaking as someone who gives an awefull lot of my time and money to the project i couldnt care less if Doc Bob shouts thankyou from the roof tops, the very fact that 558's future is in better shape and there's a bunch of people still in jobs is good enough for me. And besides if you stopped giving money etc long ago then what does it matter to you if he says thank you etc?

Amidst all the thoroughly justified congratulations and thanks that are being passed to and fro, I don't see any mention of Vbomberman.

It was he who put that excellent 'Save Our Vulcan' film on YouTube. It has now received more than 19,000 hits in five weeks. I am sure his work must have contributed significantly to the success of the pledge campaign - so I think he deserves a big thank you from us all.

I was able to take a high quality copy of his film to the European Airshow Convention in Belgium last week. It was very well received.

I was also able to give the convention members (from about 24 countries) the good news from the press conference on 6 March, and that was greeted with rapturous applause.

For anyone who might have missed the film (shame on you!), it's at

Is it me, or has one of Brunty's posts from 9th March, which referenced the Educational Officer's position, been removed?

recycling and the recession

Any folks on here got any old mobile phones, toner cartridges, ink jet cart's?
See the fundraising message on the Vulcantothesky.org for details of how to get them to us.
It helps us,[we made over 2000,00 last year]. It also helps the environment as none of this stuff goes into landfill.

Pledge redemption letter arrived today.

Various ways to pay available. Even a little section for feedback, suggestions and comments.

Oh, and a nice 'thank you' from Bob P as well.

E-bay Sales can now benefit XH558

A Trust Mission Fish Charity Account is now up and running.

This means you can now list items on e-bay and select to donate anything from 10% to 100% of the sale proceeds to the cause.

Simply select the "sell for charity" option when composing your listing and search "Vulcan". The system will then keep the option available for future use.

So: What is in the Garage, Loft, or House that you will never use again? What have the kids outgrown or Technology updated?

Never a better time to have a clearout!

All donations via this method will be very much appreciated and will certainly help secure more valuable on-going funding.

Many thanks for any help you can give.

Letter from VSTS

I received my letter asking me to honour my pledge, have duly completed the form and will mail it when I lay my hands on a stamp.

HOWEVER, would it not have been cheaper to either send it as an email attachment or just send me the details of the account to transfer the money too?

The cost of 100 000 letters is not insignificant.

The cost of 100 000 letters is not insignificant.
Last figures I saw was 10,121 pledges so presumably that means 10,121 letters.
Still a point well made. Postage is a smidgeon under £2,500 at second class.
I could set up standing order online and email the gift-aid declaration if HMRC would accept that.
I will ask the question and post when I get the reply.

Must admit I did wonder about the cost/possible wastefulness of this, but I assume it's simpler to snail everyone as there'll be quite a few older people who contributed who may not be I.T. wizzes.

As remarked earlier, the letters are numbered, & also the facility to return it with written suggestions must be again easier for some

pledges

Just my 2 penny worth.
Those of us who are computer users tend to forget that alot of people do not have/want a computer system. To ensure that we reach all of our supporters the use of the snail is vital. Also by doing a bulk mailout the cost is somewhat cheaper [do nt know exact figures]. It is also nice that Dr B has written a letter of thanks that is personalised also is well thought out.
Another thing to think about is that all of these folks are prospective club members and ongoing supporters who can receive our regular newsletters keeping them informed about how their generosity is being used; 10% hit for club nenbers is 1000 new members. This gives the project added stability for the future.I am 100% behind the way the management team have done this (Not often I can say this btb).

I will ask the question and post when I get the reply.
Prompt answer from VTST is that they need the form returned to them - "Its all about paper trails and having the data based filled in correctly."
So the form will be completed and returned.
