Can anyone tell me if the museum is still open for public visits please?
I thought i read somewhere there was a health and safety issue which had closed the museum.

Had not heard about any closure.
Try Googling for their website.
It was open at weekends earlier this year. Well worth a visit.

Seem to to be people about all the time, and more exhibits arrive all the time too!
