Great pickies guys - thanks. Shame about the tprops on the dack. Is that a German flag on the dack's fin and if so, what's the significance? Presume it's Canadian registered?

Confederate Air Force, 1977
Shame it doesn't seem possible to show these in order as a slide show should be - is it me or photobucket??
The Mosquito had flown from UK to Texas in about 1974 and had stood outside in the Texas rain, sun and humidity since then. It was very tatty, and as far as I know scarcely flew after David Tallichet got it back to California - he in khaki overalls... The Buchons seem to have disappeared too, and the three or four (Casa) He 111s that arrived in pieces while I was there are likewise conspicuous by their absence today. At the time they had something like eight Mustangs and five or six Thunderbolts on strength and claimed to be the fifth or sixth largest "Air Force" in the world...Sadly the Confederate Air Force itself seems to have recently descended into politically (in)correct wishy-washy self-dout and renamed itself the commemorative air force - Sad.
They were a great bunch of people, incredibly dedicated, friendly and hospitable. My three weeks at Harlingen were some of the most memorable of my life, and getting to play in and around those fabulous machines is never to be forgotten.
Special appreciation to the then C.O. Col Jim Hill (praying in the Vultee Vibrator) and Malcolm Russell, my BOQ buddy, 'Nam Vet Huey mechanic and long-term volunteer mechanic at Harlingen. (also in the back seat in one of the B + W pics, as well as several others). One of the kindest guys I've ever met.
Oh, and thanks, Lefty, for the ride!

spitfire floatplane
I have a photo of a Spitfire IX Floatplane, conversion from 1943. Only one was built and tested. The photo I have just has this info and that the image is from a book from Japan.
I never knew they built a floatplane version of a Spitfire!
First picture post, scanned, etc; hope it works.

This was the first public appearance of what is the world's only airworthy FE2B. The engine and prop are restored originals, but most of the rest is a reconstruction.

Crashed Beaufighter
Hi,
I recently completed "Chasing Shadows", a WWII biography of living Australian air ace, Sqn Ldr Bob Cowper DFC + Bar, French Legion of Honour.
Bob crashed a beaufighter in the Sahara whilst enroute to Malta in 1943. In the book we have shown crashed desert aircraft but were unable to locate a Beaufighter, settling instead for a crashed Wellington.
The book is printed on demand and a suitable substitute photograph could be inserted at the next printing.
Would you consider allowing me to use your photograph for illustrative purposes?
Naturally full acknowledgement to your specification would be included.
I look forward to a response.
Regards,
Steve Lewis

Some splendid images here, nice to see them all thank you...
Shame that there's no new Whirlwind photo's...
Any one got any tucked away in that old desk of Uncle Tom's or in that shabby box in the attic with all your family photo's mouldering away or the old suitcase on top the tallboy at the top of the stairs, poor little things never going to see the light of day again...
Why not go and see if their OK and let them out for a short while, we'd all be so pleased to see them...

Thread #362 is now visible. Here is an unusual visitor to Gander, a Russian Catalina. The source, Newfoundland Provincial Archives, says circa 1946, but as it is a PBY-6A lend-lease, it is possible it was photographed on a stop-over during a ferry flight. That would make the photo pre-1946. As over 100 PBY-6As were delivered to Russia via Gander, it probably wasn't that unusual.

Have sent you a PM re your request that my post 362 be removed.
My thoughts are that it might have been because the Pics were "Blank".
They had been Deleated via Photobucket "Actions"
I have re-instated the Pics.
OPF
PS
Thanks "evansb " for your PM confirming it was because there were
only "Blanks".
This was due to some Finger trouble on my part in "Photobucket"
