Posted: Sat, 21 Dec 2002 11:19 AEDT Ansett levy on way out: Govt The Federal Government has signalled an end to the Ansett airline ticket levy, sometime in the next three months. The move follows a Victorian Supreme Court decision, which opened the way for former Ansett staff to access another round of their entitlements. A spokesman for the Federal Transport Minister says the levy is likely to be lifted, once the period of appeal on the Supreme Court ruling expires. But Virgin Blue spokesman David Huttner says the levy should be scrapped immediately. "The Ansett levy has become an unnecessary tax on travellers and we hope the minister agrees and therefore we would like the Ansett levy scrapped as a Christmas present to all travellers," he said. "As soon as that's done, Virgin Blue will immediately reduce all its fares by $10 return." |
