Qantas Anounces Wildlife Names for new A220 fleet.
 

Qantas has announced they are replacing their B717s with A220s and will be naming them after Australian wildlife.

As someone who lives deep in koala habitat and even had one nose to nose with my dog through the glass door next to my desk a couple of nights ago, my only thought was whether it was wise to include the word "drop" in a commercial passenger aircraft name!

Don't forget the Hoop Snake, just as dangerous...

What about the Huntsman? I'm sure a 3 metre high decal of a spider plastered on the aircraft won't deter any pax.

Excellent idea. May I suggest the hairless wombat ? In homage to the dearly departed Alan Joyce. There’s a definite physical resemblance, and ‘eats, roots and leaves’ is a great description of his time at Qantas.

Eastern Brown, Red Bellied Black, Keelback, Dugite, Trouser, etc.

Wildlife....well that's hardly original.

The first one has an indigenous dot art livery designed by Pitjantjatjara artist Maringka Baker.
It arrived in YSSY yesterday from Mirabel and is, as I type, landing at YMML after a stop in YSCB

And why has the colour of the tail been changed to green? More corporate green washing to say how environmentally conscious they are?

It’s to reflect the colour that you turn when you see it for the first time

I wonder what the carbon footprint of that is over the lifetime of the paint scheme vs just the standard all white with red tail.

To reflect the jealousy and envy the SH blokes feel whenever they see it taxi past knowing that it just added 5 years to their time to command.

Assuming they can crew it………
