you’ll be flying one of the most modern aircraft and fuel-efficient fleets in the skies.
Do the rеt*rds who write these ads really think any pilots gives a flying ..... about flying a fuel efficient aircraft?

Also the pay is terrible, and since you're an ANG MO you won't qualify for any other government benefits.

Duck Pilot 26th Jul 2023 07:59

Another blow to the Australian operators who are paying rubbish salaries in comparison to the rest of the world🤡🤡

brokenagain 26th Jul 2023 08:36

Aren’t these positions on local Ts and Cs? In which case they’re not that crash hot.

PoppaJo 26th Jul 2023 08:42

Research local living costs, school expenses, food and transport costs before going. Might be suitable for a single person, outside of that you will struggle. You will be living in a tiny apartment and bus will be your means of transport.

Living costs have soared in Singapore just do your research if taking few others with you!

Buy that tiny apartment, pay it off and retire comfortably in Australia or like a king in asia latter on .

So what’s the difference in Australia?

How long has it been since SIA has been forced to employ external DEFO’s? A very large airline who can’t produce the numbers required to fly their aircraft is a key indicator. And when their substandard deal fails to attract what the need they’ll have to raise the bar.

I suggest you take a look at the SE Asia forum. Plenty of applicants to SIA from SE Asia and India. They've never had problems recruiting on those terms before.

So what’s your point? No different to what’s going on elsewhere in Australia and the rest of the world?

Who says you have to live in SIN. Commute to Bali/Aus/Wherever.

lucille 26th Jul 2023 11:47

DEFO = permanent FO = Ang Moh scapegoat and whipping boy. Go elsewhere, anywhere!

From experience, nothing good in Singapore. After Sing I went to work in Jeddah, it was then I realised Singapore was hell on earth and Saudi Arabia wasn’t nearly as bad as everyone had said. For the record, 10 very enjoyable years in Saudi.

33 years living and working all over the world and it’s only the Singaporean people with their kiasu mindset who have disappointed. Unless truly desperate, best to avoid.

You don't like claypot chicken? or birdseye chilli in soy?

Of course, after you have paid the staggering rental cost for a rats cage, the chicken might not be the only thing being cooked. It's an interesting place, nice 2 go 2, nice to leave. Jurong is world class as a bird park, funny, people in cages visiting birds in cages. Across the causeway, is the gem, Johor Bahru, great food, 1/5th cost of SGP, rentals 1/5th the cost and 3 times the size, but SGP won't normally be happy about living across the causeway. Pity, MYS is actually a hidden gem.

Point is SIA haven’t done this in decades, it’s simply more evidence that the pilot shortage is real. The pilot shortage deniers (AKA management) are looking more like flat earth-ers these days.

I’m not saying we all go to Singapore but the oft used threat of great hordes of international pilots coming here to fill the shortage continues to lose momentum. Maybe it’s time Australian airlines started talking turkey with us and raise pay and conditions.

Not a pilot, but in engineering and fairly recently left SG to return to AU.

Rents in SG went crazy last year (and I know they did here in AU too, but the starting point was much higher already in SG), the two bed unit, 75sqm in East Coast we had was 2.9K and went up to 4K per month and they were still climbing, the LL got 4.4K per month after we left. A bit of advice, search URA rental transactions on google, this provides the actual rent prices as all rental transactions need to be stamped via the IRAS, which is how the info is on the URA website.

Medical care is expensive and totally private in SG for foreigners, so any company provided cover needs to be really good, look at the procedures it covers, limits etc. Often the local firms cover is built around it being for a local employee who has at least some access to care/financial support publicly. Was lucky the company I was with provided a Cigna global policy, which I believe doesn't come cheap.

Cars are as we all know in SG expensive, if you are not aware and want to understand more, just look up COE prices in Singapore, that is just the starting point for car ownership, then there is the usual costs, plus extra taxes, road tolls and parking (not a lot of free parking in SG). But public transport is good and if needed there is taxis and grab etc. in the 8 years I was there I never had a car and never felt it was needed

Good luck if you want to give it a go, but definitely look at the cost of living in SG as a foreigner, as its a great place if you have money to spend, not so much if your living pay check to pay check.

It probably doesn't need to be said, but I will anyway - just be aware that the foreign pilots are the first to get stiffed if there is a surplus or things start to go t*ts up. That won't likely happen in the next year, but just a warning that as an expat you shouldn't hitch your career plans to the SIA wagon.

smiling monkey 27th Jul 2023 02:13

That advertisement has been out for at least over a year now. Scoot are also recruiting expats as well and an Aussie mate of mine has been called up for psychometric testing. I heard the pay is not that good. He gets better coin at Jetstar Aus.

WannaBeBiggles 27th Jul 2023 07:28

Isn't the bond something stupid like 500k over 8 years? (could be wrong, but remember hearing something obscene)

FO NappyBum 27th Jul 2023 23:51

They’ve demolished the “4 floors of ……” so no point going now.
