For Those Interested

Hi,

I saw on the Aviation WA Facebook page and the poster said:

"FYI...... QF943 has just left KGI for Perth, currently being flown by VH-VYL. QF943 was a Brisbane-Perth flight that was diverted to Kalgoorlie just before midnight last night. The aircraft was VH-VXI.

Due to no accommodation available in Kalgoorlie, all 160 odd passengers had to sleep in the terminal last night, before an empty VYL came to pick them up this morning.

VXI is still on the ground here, waiting for engineers"

For those interested.

Cheers.

According to The West Australian:

The Brisbane to PerthQF943 flight was scheduled to land in Perth at 11.50pm, instead it was diverted to the Goldfields town due to strong winds on approach into the capital.

While on the tarmac, where the 737 which has capacity for 174 passengers was refuelled, a mechanical issue was detected which meant the plane could not continue to Perth.

A replacement aircraft has been sent to Kalgoorlie and passengers have boarded and are due to depart for Perth shortly. There was no accommodation available in Kalgoorlie so passengers spent the night in the terminal. It is understood passengers were offered breakfast at the airport.

And a few quotes on facebook:

"The Qantas crew and Kalgoorlie Ground crew member Courtney were amazing! Courtney in particular came in after working around the clock the night before. Welcomed us to Kal with an incredible sense of humour and single-handedly sorted us all out. The Captain went out and got us all breakfast showing compassion for us all. Well done to all for making things go as smoothly as possibly. The rescue crew looked after us very well also. About to land in Perth shortly"

And another quote on facebook:

"Shoutout to the incredible Courtney C. ground staff at Kalgoorlie Boulder airport who looked after passengers so well on their overnight. Such a hard worker (she has only had 3 days off in the last 12months).
^Q"

So it sounds like they did what they could for the pax during their unexpected stay at KGI airport.

Just hypothesising here, but something may have been lost in translation with the media and the diversion was actually due to strong enroute headwinds, which regularly stretch the limits of the 737 on Brisbane-Perth sectors with a full load.

QF Planning have advised relevant parties that the A220s (when enough are available) will be doing BNE - PER at a higher frequency (+1-2 more per day) as they are more suited to the sector length.

So is the A321XLR with 20J class seats.

This shouldn't been as a badge of honour.

Yes, certainly seems a better effort than JQ at Alice.

20 A220s need to replace those 717s first, the next aircraft beyond that are here in almost 4 years, and they never, ever plan that far in advance.

I think you’ll find they’ve found a cheaper alternative for the 717 work.

Well done Courtney, and I hope someone recognises and rewards her for such dedication.

Agreed. I doubt a brand new, multi million dollar aeroplane with 3600nm range will spend a lot of time doing Melbourne to Launceston or Brissie to Gladstone.
Those 30 E190s have to go somewhere....

The greatest ruse is coming to a cockpit near you…..

if you think the A220 is a direct replacement for the B717, I’ll sell u a bridge.

But meanwhile keep telling yourself that mainline job is secure 🤓

You want less QF mainline Jobs? Cause that’s just want this country needs, more ****ty paying pilot jobs at the expense of well paying ones🤔

there are far too many imbeciles in this country.
