Qantas to Wet Lease

Growing talks of a potential wet lease arrangement with several QF routes. AIPA shot this down a few weeks ago, but that doesn’t mean a great deal.

Not only will this be significant for staff but highly embarrassing for QF management.

The rumour is Norwegian 787s until all A380 capacity is back. International travel returned a lot quicker than they had expected. Norwegian’s 78s are in a high density 56 premium economy/286 economy configuration.

It's not the first time QF has wet leased. If I remember correctly in the late 80's they wet leased a Tower Air 747-100.

Alliance, Atlas are technically wet leased, they wet leased a few AN jets for a period of time after the AN collapse. At the same time they had a similar deal with Air Canada for some 767s for a few months.

It also looks like they wet leased passenger jumbo in the late 80s from Aer Lingus and Martinair in addition to Tower Air. To cover capacity shortfalls according to the thread.

So temporary wet leasing is not uncommon or new, but will ruffle some feathers no doubt.

Saw that too, only thing is that Norwegian doesn’t operate any 787s post Bjorn Kjos. Might be Norse Atlantic which has started operations a few months ago using 787s with the same flawed LCC transatlantic.model.They have already leased(dry) 4 787s to Air Europa.

Regardless of which airline, it willl be a new low for QF management if that is the strategy being pursued and will be further confirmation they are aren’t the smartest guys outside the room.(echo chamber)
