Australia gets ready to draw up the Drawbridge

Diktaytor Dan ( yes he's back) and Anna Palace-Chook have called for significantly reduced numbers of international arrivals.

Let's draw up the drawbridge and dig a deeper moat around Fortress Australia. Let's rival the most isolated state in the world, Kim Jong Un's 'Democratic Republic'. While we are at it let's have snap lockdowns for random number of days that achieve nothing but destroy small business, tourism and hospitality.

Their Hotel Quarantine plan has failed. Their mixed messaging is a disaster. "Get the vax so we can open up, BUT, if you're vaccinated you can still get the 'Rona, and by the way if you're vaxxed we will give NO concessions".

Meanwhile Ol' Blighty is getting on with the vax and publicly saying "we will have to live with it". As is good old Biden.

The big question is will the very few airlines flying here with 40 pax on 300 seaters simply withdraw or suffer the further losses of putting 15 people in an A350 or B787?

Good point, but.

Thanks for providing another thread for our self appointed ‘betters’ to come on here and virtue signal their vaccination status, lob insults at those who disagree with their opinion, and endlessly spruik and regurgitate feckless politician talking points like ‘short sharp lockdown’ ‘circuit breaker’ and ‘keeping us safe’.

Drawbridge wont be needed as those 'stuck' overseas are realising that they're going to be in the better place as other countries are moving forward. Whilst we have our circus.

Good post, says it all.

The virus is now endemic and we will have to get used to living with it, locking down won’t keep it out, it’s already in the community.

Australia has the big advantage that it kept the virus at bay until vaccines were available whereas the UK and USA were badly hit early on before there was any way of preventing it.

The need now is to vaccinate as many people as quickly as possible while gradually opening up the country. The virus pandemic can be turned into the equivalent of a bad flu season with vaccinated people less likely to catch COVID, pass it on or get very sick if the holes in the Swiss cheese line up and they are infected.

People will continue to get the virus but will mostly be recovering from mild symptoms at home, rather than dying in the ICU.

Excellent, another COVID thread. Love it! :DMods, can we just change this site to CORUNE? No need for the professional bit, unless the majority of ex pilots now have medical qualifications…

Gold!!!! Quote of the day. And a very salient comment.

The Vaccine will not end the madness, even with 100% Vaccination rate around 15% will have zero protection from it .
still means no concessions for vaccinated as opposed to unvaccinated.
The Chinese built this virus with a purpose, mostly for a financial war , unless they really wanted to wipe out humanity.

The political class will get their cut after they bankrupt the country and sell to the communist. Hope you all like singing and marching.
Remember you voted for these fools running the country.

Even Windows XI is a PRC commie plot.

I didn't, and they aren't.

Stephen Duckett sums up the problem nicely at Australia hasn't learnt the lessons of its bungled COVID vaccine rollout - ABC News

Incorrect statsThe death and severe illness prevention is massively successful with both az and pf vaccines. Aside from that it's pretty moot thereafter.
Just need them shots ...

exactly. And there are several reasons why we are behind. Some legitimate, some due to bungling, and some political.

as for the situation being the same when most of us are vaccinated. I doubt that

The Uk have just decided that any form of vaccine passport will not be required domestically. Which is how it should be. Once we have around 70% vaccinated then life needs to return to normal. Not a new normal. The old normal. The only time you should need to prove vaccination is for international flights. Period. Apart from that, no QR code’s. No masks, no social distancing, no lockdowns…
