Was this the “agreement” that was forced upon the FA’s after the FWC threatened them with the award should they continue their push for better pay and conditions? The award in some areas was a significant reduction in terms.

Just for interest did my tax last week with a mob who look after quite a lot of aviation employees, chatting with the accountant about things he made the unsolicited comment that Virgin will be gone in 2 years.

I hope he's wrong for the sake of all involved but with Bain's #1 priority to make money (and not to run an airline, who'd a thunk!) where Bain/Virgin will be in two years time anyone's guess.

The FWC only ‘threatened’ them with that because on both occasions the flight attendant unions endorsed the deal, which is probably fair enough:

- Negotiations going for protracted period (circa 18-24 months)
- Unions endorse first deal
- Cabin crew vote down first deal
- Unions endorse second deal
- FWC outlines that bargaining can’t go on forever - employee representatives are saying vote yes, outline to crew that company would have strong case to terminate agreement and inform employees that deal is significantly better than award
- 85% of workforce vote, of which 80ish% vote yes

It wasn't actually the FWC. What it was , was an opinion from a former employee of FWC. The opinion was paid for by BAIN and the CC took the bait.

The document I have just read, very much looks like it was determined from a current FWC. Signed and sealed with a stamp stating Fair Work Commission.

I will see if it can be attached to my post. Not that I am disagreeing with you. I think what the FWC did was pretty crap all round.

I think there is very little doubt that the VA / Bain tie-up is on borrowed time. Bain won't continue to pour money into a business that is not making money as that is Bain's No.1 priority. Hopefully VA can rebuild and find that niche 'hybrid' model that they are craving and the loads remain strong. Looking at the transcon battle, QF are certainly winning that with 330's running head to head with VA's 737 offering.

The high yes vote was partly due to FWC statement but also due to the agreement being reasonable when all things considered.

The end result became reasonable with added protections and clauses throughout, including the much wanted improvement for trip protections.

Total roster hours increasing only 4 hours (1 hour a week) with overtime structure changes.

Pay freeze for one year with 2% increase after this with a 2 year agreement.

Not the best result but not a bad result also and many crew surprised it wasn't as bad as original no vote. Despite some losses, but decent still when compared with Qantas (especially new hires), Jetstar Rex conditions.

TWU and FAAA unions didn't endorse either deal, instead agreed in principle, which is very different and was made clear. Crew wanted transparency on the next move, and fair work provided much needed proof when it didn't go down well coming from the company. In this case, there was a fine line between transparency and threat. But yes, a more reasonable deal was reached for both sides with the second deal.

Not saying it was a good deal, far from it. But a pay freeze is noted. Miss JH wants flight crew to take a 27% pay CUT, based on minimum guaranteed hours.
