Don't know about anyone else, but my number of landings exceeds the number of take offs.

421dog 13th Dec 2020 00:26

Ok, I’ll bite. I’ve never taken off without landing, never jumped out of a perfectly good or, for that matter, a broken airplane. So do please elucidate....

I get it Megan:) Dog just needs to ruminate:}

Chris2303 13th Dec 2020 02:31

So bounces don't count?

harrryw 13th Dec 2020 04:10

Just count each bounce as an unplanned takeoff

Point Merge 13th Dec 2020 04:17

Not all udiddly, up ups are takeoffs? But all down diddly down, downs are landings?

Is hitting the ground with a parachute considered a landing?

the_rookie 13th Dec 2020 13:53

Riveting stuff this..

Instructors demonstrate takeoff/landings all the time without one or the other to even it up. Captains take over takeoff/landings from FOs when the conditions are not suitable.

Yes you’re still present for the takeoff and landing - but your take off and landing tally may be not even.

421dog 14th Dec 2020 00:17

......not thinking much of the rationale.....
every time I bounced it in, in a T-6 or a spring-gear taildragger, I still only logged it as one....

Surely more take offs than landings suggests either ditching on CFIT?

Why would you want to hit the ground with a parachute? You’ll end up ruining the pack it’s in and besides what has the ground done to deserve being hit?

NutLoose 14th Dec 2020 17:15

It’s the only 100% record in aviation, we have never left one up there yet..

Or students unable to land so instructor takes over...
