resumption of flights to North America(NA)
Deputy NZ PM, wants flights to NZ operating for NZ ski season.
https://www.traveller.com.au/ski-sea...skiiers-h1nrnw NZ govt needs flights to resume ASAP or country will go down the toilet along with the all blecks (had to get this one in, sorry all you kiwis about losing the RWC) So, NZ govt will be pushing to get flights to NA operating ASAP, so think soon after you can fly to NZ from OZ, you'll be able to connect with flights from NZ to NA. So if you then can fly to NA via NZ, how could any govt stop nonstops ? Read somewhere, on another forum I think, that if USA doesn't open fast enough, airlines might use TIJ, as Mexican govt will allow flights. TIJ is literally right on the U.S. border at San Diego. You can use a facility called CBX, cross border express to literally walk a few hundred metres from Mexico to USA. So fly into TIJ walk to San Diego where you clear U.S. customs & immigration & yes you have to get to SAN if want to fly somewhere else in USA, but SAN is well serviced even right now. Also read that some non U.S. airlines are looking to fly HNL/mainland USA as an extension of flight into HNL, but they obviously can't sell HNL/LAX for example, but they could sell HNL/TIJ, which would probably be attractive to San Diego residents. |
Absolutely zero chance. History won’t be allowed to repeat. https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/austr...on/ar-BB11qXrQ

I would suggest that if you travel to the USA anyway you like that the Australian government doesn’t approve you will get stuck in two weeks quarantine. As for NZs ski fields I know of one that made the decision in February to not open this winter due to the harsh lockdown. They went to hard IMO and now are going to,panic as unemployment goes thru the roof.

Chances of NA is close to zero as possible
Australia <=> NZ is expected to be announced this week. Jacinda Ardern is attending the australian cabinet meeting on tuesday |
Jacinda Ardern to join Australia’s national cabinet meeting this week.
That would suggest there is a push for the establishment of conditions to permit the re-opening of trans-Tasman travel at some stage. No idea what the timing of that might be. Beyond that? Forget it for the foreseeable future. |
With Trump running around like a headless chook it aint gonna happen.
|
There’ll be flights from Australia or NZ to China before the US.
Although a resumption in international travel may be speeded with recent advances in antibody testing that may be available en masse within several months. There’ll still need to be trials (just because you have antibodies doesn’t necessarily mean immunity) but after the tests are developed and refined a certificate of immunity could be issued allowing quarantine and isolation free international travel? |
Nope. Not this year. Aus-NZ, then Pacific Islands decide if they want in. If they're in bubble with Aus/NZ then no flights to US/Asia. Easy decision for Cook Is, Vanuatu, trickier for Fiji, Samoa.

As someone who’s taken the train to the border from San Diego and walked across to Tijuana, it’s about a 20 mile hike
|
FFS, get Trans Tasman flights going, the local Woolies is out of Watties Baked Beans. Can't deal with this for too much longer.

I can't see flights from the country currently most effected by covid-19 to one of the least effected countries for quite some time yet.
|
i'm guess July or August. You must remember all OZ govts are trying to encourage domestic tourism, cos we need the money to stay here.
Be interesting to look back at this post in 2-7 months. |
I’ve heard Alliance will be flying direct to Tijuana from Bankstown using Fokker 50s, starting 1st June.

As mentioned previously, without medical travel insurance,no one in their right mind will fly to the USA, highest medical costs in the world, and highest Covid Death rate to date! So unless the Insurance companies come up with a reasonably priced Insurance policy covering Covid, I dont see too many people going overseas anywere! |

Be interesting to look back at this post in 2-7 months. Anyone traveling outside of where the Gov approves will likely find themselves with an enforced hotel stay on their return and maybe at their own expense. |

Pretty certain Morrison and Birmingham have both said international borders (other than NZ) will be closed until next yr earliest.

Surprise surprise, it may be a lot sooner, once many have booked domestic holidays. I'll say 1AUG for 1st long haul international, past NZ & 1SEP for more normal long haul, whatever the new normal is. |

You might have to take a pill (if vaccine not sorted, but vaccine now only looks few months away) like if going to a malaria ridden country. The yanks will sort it out, they, like all other countries, will have to. Welfare can only go so far. After start of Sep, most welfare for Corona will end in OZ. Pent up demand is huge, lots of pressure on govts to reopen everything, including borders fast. Think of all those with credit vouchers which have to be used. If you don't think it will happen fast, you better get to your local gun shop to get legal guns/ammo or your local bikie gang to get it faster. Crime is already on increase. |
Currently there are 3 passenger flights a week to North America from NZAA
NZ 2 AKL LAX TUES THURS SAT NZ 1 LAX AKL Currently 789 and from next week 773 operating |
Do you know if they’ve been cancelling those flights or are they actually going?
Answered my own question, https://flightaware.com/live/flight/...452Z/NZAA/KLAX Now is that pax or cargo? |

I would agree though, that Morrison is looking for any excuse to get back to "normal" as he was dragged by the states to tightening up as early as we did. As an aside I do not trust the CMO or the DCMO, imo they're both caught up in the politics, instead of just giving the medical advice it appears to me they're now part of the political process and are one and the same as Morrision. |
UA just confirmed closure of their LAX long haul base. Sparking rumours that their remaining long haul flights including SYD-LAX won't be returning post Corona.
UA had already reduced SYD-LAX to a seasonal service prior to COVID-19 restrictions. https://liveandletsfly.com/united-lax-hub-future/ |

lolololololol. How about some logic on this? Where is the virus doing the most damage, where are the deaths the highest and where is the DEAR LEADER doing jack sh!te about it? Oh, the US you say. Correct. I seriously doubt there will be flights to the US anytime soon, it would be political suicide for the Fed Gov to open our borders to anyone coming from there as you only need to listen to everyday people and anything Trump is on the nose. The place is out of control.

A tiered reopening is stupid - the second wave will take hold - then tighten restrictions, then loosen, then tighten for a indefinite time. Just suck it up, lock the country down eradicate the virus. Rip the band aid off then get back to work 100%. |
From Dre

There currently are pax flights. Care to explain why you're so wide of the mark? Especially given all it took was a quick search. Just as Australia still has some international flights for repatriation etc, they / we do not have normal international pax flts per se. |
United has daily service from San Fran to Sydney return. It's a regular scheduled flight.

Who is getting on board that flight? No one, unless a citizen or resident returning (inbound) or someone on CRITICAL travel (outbound). See here: https://covid19.homeaffairs.gov.au/leaving-australia You cannot leave the country as a citizen or resident, simple, the borders are closed. That flight may be regular or scheduled, but unless you meet set criteria you are not traveling on it and you won't be if it's for a holiday. No time soon for any flight overseas (except as has been mentioned in the media) for NORMAL travel i.e. holiday etc. |
The point is a simple one. Dre in his effort to idolize all things China made a prediction. He was wrong, not something uncommon for him.

I see on radar24 that Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean and Japanese airlines still fly many routes daily to/from the USA. I guess there are quite a few (dual) citizens and green card holders around still to fly on those as that is the only category allowed entry these days for the most part. I don't know how full/empty those flights are though.

Subsidised flights, or flights just run for the sake of just running them is simply pissing in the wind if your alluding to commercial airlines operating commercially viable flights. Cheers :ok: |

Excxfo,
My point being that a previous poster said only repatriation flights were going to the USA. Then another poster said the flights were empty anyway. Well tonight SFO-SYD has 105 pax. Not great but not insignificant either. They also have a full belly of cargo. The flight will most likely break even. |
