Will Jayne Hrdlicka be the new CEO of a reborn Virgin Australia?

From The Australian a few days ago:

Former Jetstar boss in Virgin mix

Former Jetstar boss Jayne Hrdlicka is believed to be working with Bain Capital on a potential tilt at the collapsed airline Virgin Australia.

It’ll be doomed before it starts if that’s the case. Another disgruntled former Qantas exec who was found wanting and moved on.

As long as she’s finished work in time to pick up the kids from school...

And she can get to the shops after work to buy some A2 milk for the kids breakfast.

Can only work Weekdays 9-3pm

Ollie Onion 1st May 2020 07:07

She will also implement a policy of 50% of the pilots left must be female, the Chief Pilot must be female and she will insist on flexiworking (for herself) and will not move from Sydney but will phone in where required.

Anorher useless specimen of a human being. Overpaid and inept. Leaves a trail of wreckage in her wake. But that seems to be a prerequisite for a CEO’s CV these days.

Didn’t she leave A2 Milk in mysterious circumstances? The company or her line was because they were NZ based and it was to much travel from memory... odd considering she worked for an airline I thought she would have been travelling the network and engaging with teams and key stakeholders in remote locations more than would be expected when you work for a milk company.

Sorry to sound a bit old school but if you want the CEO gig and want the multi million dollar salary extensive travel and time away from home should be an expectation....

In saying, that on a positive note, she seemed to do an ok job at JQ (from an outsiders point of view) and that continual cost focus and lean mentality is a much needed mindset at VA.

yes definitely

John Emmerton 1st May 2020 08:34

Her surname worries me.......

John Emmerton 1st May 2020 08:37

my apologies.....not wearing my specs......I thought that her surname was "hrdlicka".....oh dear....!

Sunfish 1st May 2020 08:39

God help you if Bain gets it. They will gut you. Load you with even more debt and then float you to real idiots.

strobes_on 1st May 2020 09:01

Any CEO who has an adverse history with multiple employers should ring alarm bells for a company who is looking at a Virgin restructure.

Notice I have not mentioned Jane Hrdlicka in the above sentence.

No.

The success of the business is not in its ingredients but also the kitchen. Borghetti left a successful business to end up with a basket case business. VA is in a kitchen where the major competitor has everything aligned. The reality is that you need deep pockets, a good recipe and market share to win in the aviation market. Having 35% market share demonstrates that a business will not survive long term, and that was in a market pre COVID!

AN had 50% domestic market share with equipment and capital severely lacking.... It doest matter who is at the helm.

Hoosten 1st May 2020 11:55

Serious ethical issues raised on her departure from A2.

When has ethical issues ever been a problem with ASIC, the law or for any business in Australia for that matter?

The Banjo 1st May 2020 12:19

She might finally do something useful for the Qantas Group and stuff Virgin Mark 2. Very charitable and will not cost a cent. Annnd she knows a great female chief pilot.......
