Temporary work opportunities...help a mate!
 

With the large numbers of employees being stood down across various Australian Airlines I thought it might be helpful to use this network to our advantage.

Whilst some individuals and/or families might be able to weather the financial impact of these stand downs over the coming months, others wont be in the same position.

I encourage everyone to post and share any information they have on temporary work opportunities in their area; labour work, admin, data entry, home rennos, farm work, gardening, child minding, painting - the list is endless. Let's keep our ears to the ground and spread the word. We will get through this temporary phase of uncertainty :)

Airline employees have plenty of historical data on this matter. It was known as the 89 pilot's dispute. Sell the Range Rover, sell the Jet Ski's, cancel the Golf Club membership, this list goes on.
Joyce is asking Woolworth's to assist QF emplyees with part time work; WTF??? what about the crushed GA tourism sector? hundreds of unemployed aviation people .... Irish git!

Here someone has set up a page trying to create something thoughtful and positive. And you come on here 2 seconds later and shut it down with negative remarks. Go away ya clown. We don’t need people like you in the world right now

I have a hatch and 2 plastic moulded kayaks :( Thats after 25 years in the industry. Just been given my standown, spoken with finance companies. No immediate help.

Like him or hate him AJ is at least trying to find paid work for some of his stood down employees in an economic climate where jobs will be scarce. Key point is he doesn’t have any responsibility to take care of anyone laid off in GA tourism. They’ll have to look for other help. Sad but true.

I’d be speaking with them again, everyone I’ve spoke to so far has ended up with something from 3 months or further relief, not sure as to which institutions tho.

I know that fruit picking has in the past been done largely by backpackers, many of whom may have returned to their home countries. There are some orchards near me, and I intend to ask the question; should anything arise I'll post it here.

I work in Government. If jobs do come up I will let you know on this forum. This thread is a great idea, let's help each other and support one another. We are all united and in this together.

Ladies and gents there is still work going in India. Get the ball rolling now as it takes up to 3 months to get the paper work sorted and by then India will be allowing expats back in (mid April I believe).
I appreciate contract work isn't everyones cup of tea but it will pay the bills to you are back at work.

At the risk of being ridiculed but in the spirit of the original poster, Telstra is hiring 1,000 new call centre staff to cover for their Phillipines and Indian based centres that have been forced to close. All positions will be advertised on Monday morning at careers.telstra.com.

Hes just got millions from the government,why wouldnt he try & make himself look good.

This is a brilliant idea especially when you think that most Flight Attendants already will have done a first aidMORE THAN 1,000 LAID-OFF WORKERS AT SCANDINAVIAN AIRLINES (SAS) ARE BEING OFFERED FAST-TRACKED HEALTHCARE TRAINING TO HELP SWEDEN’S UNDER PRESSURE HEALTH SYSTEM FIGHT CORONAVIRUS.

Earlier this week, SAS announced it would temporarily lay off as much as 90 per cent of its staff – the equivalent of 10,000 employees – as demand for flights has “more or less disappeared”.

This comes as European countries begin to shut their borders and introduce travel advisory warnings.

But rather than leave these employees in the lurch, Reuters reported, Sweden’s Sophiahemmet University will run a three-day trial for 30 people at the end of March with the hope of extending the course to “hundreds more”.

“There are incredibly competent people who will be able to offer relief to our healthcare immediately after completing the training so that doctors and nurses can to an even greater extent devote themselves to caring for patients,” Johanna Adami, principal at the University, told Reuters.

The Swedish course will reportedly be free of charge, with the companies involved with the training not seeking to make a profit. Funding is provided by the Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg foundation.

According to Reuters, students will be trained in providing information to patients and their families, sterilising beds and equipment and basic administrative duties.

Fredrik Hillelson, CEO at Novare Human Capital, is acting as coordinator and recruiter for the program, and said around 250 out of 1,100 contacted SAS workers have so far said they want to take part in the training.

“It is a small bright light in all the darkness to be able to do something positive, not just talking,” he told Reuters.
“IF WE CAN BE A POSITIVE INITIATIVE THAT GETS OTHER PEOPLE TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX, I’M VERY HAPPY.”

If you can get a truck license, there is plenty of work in that field at the moment. Getting the licence is not overly onerous.

For the ex Mil guys, there have been large shortages for a lot of flying units. Maybe time to dive back in?

Suggestion. Why don't Cabin Crew who are laid off go and help in the health industry, after all they're qualified in first aid. I know a couple of folk who have just done that in our National Health system and their skills have been welcomed.

someone’s put a petition up here skint about that- I don’t know if they actually asked the cabin crew if they wanted to retrain and go straight into the heart of Covid infection . Not sure I would.

its at times like this I find myself uniquely qualified to do xxxx all but fly aircraft , and there’s not much call for that

- SpiceJet let their ~ 15 x 737 Captains go in February, albeit for non virus reasons (MAX/lease renewal issues) BUT appears won't be inviting them back anytime soon;
- GoAir expats just given notice, effective immediately;
- Indigo (largest expat employer) making "dire comments" and reducing flights some 50% or so;
- Air India trying to be sold by the government (yes, yet again! :ugh:), one wonders if they'll maybe just admit defeat and let it fold?
- Vistara (50% SQ)...who knows.

May not hear as much - if anything - about India or South America but their aviation industry is as stuffed as the rest of the world; guess your own recovery prospects/timeline.
Jet Airways went bust, should another go bust then fair to expect no need for expats in the immediate future....if ever again.

Interesting to note on another forum pondering whether AirJapan - generally agreed as a pretty continuously safe and stable gaijin bolthole by the inmates - could be under threat IF downsizing became significant within Japan/ the ANA group.
Just ponderings from some - but not unreasonable, world aviation is being compromised and while Japan like to believe they're special - they're not THAT special! :p

You would be surprised how many people have passed the first aid basic training... start with anyone who’ve got a driving license within last 30 years. Then all maritime staff. Gun license holders. Public train and bus drivers. Security personnel. Wait, how about conscripts? Many others. I am failing to see why CC would have been identified as fast track candidates if it is not another form of state help....
