Air NZs international rights should be rescinded if that was to occur and the Trans Tasman agreement binned. You can't operate so called free/open markets when one country is basically a socialist state.

Like how the Australian govt blocked airnz from flying domestically over there? While Aussie airlines have a free rein in NZ...

Please don’t let this important thread turn into a political one. 😟

Ok doesn’t apply to crew, but what about crew that go out of New Zealand have lay over day or days then operates back to nz? Been mingling in overseas countries then operate back and no self isolation required?

I was initially a bit concerned about the idea of this, until I read today an Australian who travelled from France to Townsville last week. He was tested for COVID-19 while in Australia.
He then thought it would be a good idea to fly to NZ while still waiting for his results. While having breakfast this morning, confirmation of a positive result came through and is now isolated to a hotel room. If people are that thick, that they think they should travel while waiting for test results, then keep them out. (mind you, he was Australian) Dumb Aussie thought it was ok to travel while waiting for test results |
Jacinda only did it to stop the kiwis convicted of criminal activity being deported back to NZ.

Good decision, but it's going to be painful for a lot of people. What I don't understand is why the implementation was delayed two days, rather than being instantaneous. Surely that's the logical way to deal with the situation?

"Airline crew are exempt from the 14-day self-isolation rule but are required to be isolated to their accommodation while waiting to operate their return flights out of the country." |
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/hea...by-85-per-cent
In part below "As a result of the downturn in travel Air New Zealand continues to review its cost base and will need to start the process of redundancies for permanent positions acknowledging the important role partnering with unions has in this process. "We are now accepting that for the coming months at least Air New Zealand will be a smaller airline requiring fewer resources, including people. We have deployed a range of measures, such as leave without pay and asking those with excess leave to take it, but these only go so far. We are working on redeployment opportunities for some of our staff within the airline and also to support other organisations". Foran said the airline was working with the heads of the four main unions representing more than 8000 of its workforce to ensure the right outcome for all staff. "I would like to thank the leadership teams at E tu, AMEA, NZALPA and Federation of Air New Zealand Pilots for the way in which they are engaging with the airline and positively representing the interests of their members. These are unprecedented times that we are all having to navigate. And it is clear that if we don't take all the appropriate measures to lower costs and to drive revenue, our airline won't be in the best position to accelerate forward once we are through the worst of the impact of Covid-19."" |
Air New Zealand to layoff 30% of staff
Air New Zealand announces 30% of all staff across the board to be laid off as a first step. One can only hope that in time things will get back to something like normal and the people affected re-employed.
