NB I'm not sure they 're right that it only applies from March 9th - it looks immediate on the Govt website Coronavirus: Reinforcement of precautionary measures taken by the French Polynesian GovernmentFollowing the rules put in place to avoid the entry of the coronavirus COVID-19 into French Polynesia, the government of French Polynesia has decided to strengthen measures as of March 03rd, 2020.From March 9th, 2020, all passengers regardless of their nationality traveling to/via French Polynesia must carry a medical certificate no older than 5 days certifying their health condition, regardless of their port of departure. This measure will be enforced until March 31st, 2020, at which date the government will decide on its possible renewal. Before March 9th, 2020, travelers transiting through or that have visited one of the following countries within 30 days prior to their trip to French Polynesia: China Cambodia Hong-Kong India Japan Macau Malaysia Nepal Singapore South Korea Sri Lanka Taiwan Thailand Vietnam Philippines Iran Italy: Lombardy, Veneto and Emilia Romagna must carry a medical certificate no older than 5 days certifying their health condition, regardless of their port of departure. We therefore invite the concerned passengers to take the necessary measures prior to their flight. For more information, visit the official website of the Government of French Polynesia. Authorities from other countries have also established various entry regulations, including for transiting passengers. Therefore, we strongly recommend that all customers check the latest updates published by the authorities of the countries they plan to travel to. |
I'm sure you're aware there are many countries with travel restrictions throughout the world. The Pacific (the French colonies of New Caledonia and French Polynesia not withstanding) are almost certainly ill equipped to handle a serious health outbreak.
Many of these places represent the developing rather than the developed world in terms of health care systems. However, even if it includes crew these medical certificates are unlikely to be worth the paper that they're written on... Also, I doubt there are many passengers in transit through PPT. |
It was a heads up as I hadn't seen it in any other news bulletin -
Main issue locally is apparently Cruise Ships not aircraft but it has to be dated within the 5 days of your travel....... |

Given that we are seeing doctors with it, two in Australia currently, one wonders if this could actually backfire by increasing the risk of people bringing it in unknowingly.
I guess they want to show they're doing something and it might pick up a few cases that otherwise would just arrive |
FYI went through PPT on Friday - eve local boat trips inter-island are now affected - only freight and no pax to outer islands
Think it 's still possible to fly inter-island but check - probably will be severely cut this week :( |
Understand ATN are flying non-stop CDG - PPT with reduced loads to avoid LAX stop - 15++ hours
|
They are continue flying to/fro PPT/LAX & PPT/AKL
Flights to from CDG are going via Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe in the West Indies to avoid the USA - twice a week planned https://www.airtahitinui.com/uk-en/c...chedule-update enforcing 14 day self isolation at home or in accommodation in Tahiti |
