Engine power from the ATR72, bigger brakes and modification to the ailerons.

A replacement for the aging DHC8 to Lord Howe Island ?.

Right! Who is going to buy it and who will operate it?

If Lord Howe is to survive, who can continue the Dash 8-200 service?

ATR-42 STOL ? Any good for that flying into St Mary's ISC?

Rog747. The ATR42 STOL with 36 pax is expected to out perform the DHC8-100/200. The ATR42 STOL with 20 pax may be ok at EGHE with a good breeze if the rumay length is still 600 metres. Do you know the effective landing and take-off distances ?

The current airline as you may know uses the Twin Otter with 17 seats (2 pilots, no CC and 2 seats removed for a fixed dog box) thus any investment for a new ATR with max 20 pax will I guess not be one to put before the Board lol
The Dash 8 100/200, even payload restricted is still no good for ISC - I flew on one with OA last summer from RHO- KZS Kastelorizo island (800m) and payload was max about 25 seats.

EGHE AD 2.13 DECLARED DISTANCES

RWY14 TORA/TODA both 623m and LDA 603m and RWY32 647m/603m

When I was with BMA at LHR we handled Brymon who in 1981 got 3 spanking new rather nice 50 seat Dash 7's which I guess today would be ideal for the holiday and weekend peak loads for the Isles of Scilly from NQY, EXT and Lands End - They would be better suited for the longer slog from EXT (almost 90 mins in a Twotter) and could restart BRS and SOU - both routes were dropped as too far for an Otter...

Sadly the Dash 7's never saw the ISC route although it was mooted - except once when I think CP Harry Gee took one over for a look-see at St Mary's - ISC then still had the grass runway, and after that first go they never went back...(I think all underwear needed a change)

Today with a 647m hard runway the 50 seater Dash 7 could have been a nice people mover for the Islands.
