Thunderstorms disrupting normal ops I would say. It's been quite active.

Just saw a 744 QF28 in Melbourne diverted from SCL. Unusual to say the least!

Sydney airport is one of the most pathetic airports on the planet , it’s time the government takes back control of all airports and builds 3rd and fourth runways. The fuel wasted would far outweigh any cost of infrastructure but because the private owners don’t bear the brunt of wasted resources they think it’s not their problem .

Indeed it would, however this would require leadership, some risk taking and accepting responsibility for outcomes. All qualities that are absent from today’s politicians, airline management and indeed most organisations, in these days of hand wringing, taking offence, rampant outrage at the slightest inconvenience. etc etc. Bless the invention of HR departments and rule by bean counter...............Not!............Yep, I’m just another worn out, old, retired, selfish baby boomer!

Lotta fuel in a couple of billion dollars.

So what is so different about TS disrupting Sydney this time to any other time. It was the same on Friday. Has there been a change in policy on dispo's and thunderstorms?

Wha do you mean by ‘dispo’s’? I understand it’s dispensations but a dispensation for what? And when you say 20 aircraft waiting to leave , is that has happened or what will happen tonight? Ie in 13 hours time.
Cheers

If you operate through Sydney, you would be familiar with the Sydney Airport Curfew Act & Regulations.

Lotta fuel in a couple of billion dollars.
There's 50 of them there billions in an 'NBN' that's about as pathetic as the state of capital city airports.

Sydney ATC can’t handle cells. The recovery attempts are beyond laughable. You need to see how the NYC metro airports work in the event of a cell passing across. What follows is clear efficiency and incredible spacing to get the place moving. It’s not the controllers fault, they are dealing with a failed system after all, with a operator in complete denial in that they operate some poverty system.

Dispensation because of the storms and “exceptional circumstances”.

From looking at flightradar the last landing was CX139 from Canberra around midnight. The last departure was around 1am, one of the ME3 A380s I think. He means that the 20 aircraft were waiting at 16R for an well over an hour while all arrivals landed on 34L.
