Qantas ULH
Anyone hearing QF are leaning towards a version of the A350-900ULR as offered by Airbus for new ULR routes. If true this could have ramifications for the B787 fleet in the future.

Rumour is you are correct Boeing have told them they can’t do it. |
Boeing can do it and both manufacturers have submitted their proposals to Qantas. The next issue is to get regulatory (CASA) and union (EA) endorsement to enable duties excess of 20 hours, which requires studies to be undertaken on fatigue and other factors etc. Qantas will not be able to progress ULH without current duty extensions. For example - for Singapore Airlines SIN / US sector; the flight requires two Captains and two First Officers rostered for the duty (rule required by the regulator).
Qantas will be in a position to place an order for delivery by 2022, once this gate is passed (if it does). |
They need to get in bed with Airbus in order to get some wriggle room on that 100Neo order that are now not going to Japan,Vietnam or Hong Kong.

Going with the 359 means Roll Royce......giving them another chance after the 380 blow up would be crazy. Not to mention the 789 problems which thankfully QF is not suffering. Pitting your eggs into the RR basket is very risky......

dont think it is a risk, hundreds of 350s flying around with no issues

Slow news day?

I just wish they’d make a bloody decision on it!
AJ is good and likes milking free publicity on any developments in the business but this is dragging on. God help us if it drags on ‘til the end of the year. Boeing and Airbus have no doubt made it clear what their proposals are, so just make a decision...please! |
Let me guess , there is still a whole raft of Executive Bonus Shares to come down the pipeline , so the pikey needs to keep that share price as artificially high as he can until he’s milked the Qantas cash cow for all its worth. Then and only then will the long suffering Qantas staff possibly see aircraft orders and signs that the company has a chance of outlasting the wee one’s tenure ! |
Rumour is that there will be no announcement for at least 3 years... someone has stage fright when it comes to ordering aircraft |
Interestingly, there is no accompanying ASX announcement.
Significant 'decisions' that have material impact (like a CEO appointment) are required to be released to the market. It is possible that it is a story front running the board into an announcement or denial. Maintaining one's narrative is hard work. Industry average tenures are less than five years, with very little to show for a decade's tenure other than self enrichment, it may be posturing. For the staff, a collective sigh goes out..an exasperated sigh of resignation that things will just get worse. |
