Qantaslink back in South Africa next week looking for pilots again.

Qantaslink is doing interviews in South Africa next week for pilots.I wonder how many they will fish after the word has spread through the industry of how Qantaslink backtracked on their promises made to the previous candidates who are now settled and trapped in OZ?

QLink

"Settled & Trapped" in what way?

Since the 457 went away, I don't understand how they can recruit overseas pilots with only 2 year visas (no path to permanent residency).

If the lunatics running the asylum offered a joint seniority list (remember that) they wouldn’t be in this predicament. Virtually all the problems that occur in Qantas are self made, they don’t listen , they know better.

oh yes, and how does that work again? The Qantaslink pilots are happy to stay in Qantaslink at the going rates of payuntil Qantas says they can go to mainline and that will work because they have a seniority number in mainline.
I don’t think so.

so, just to get this straight , you would rather the status quo remain than have a number on the mainline seniority list? Maybe you could explain that to me cos I don’t get it?

I think they are just another Management Troll, QFs IR Policy is based on NEVER having a Group Seniority List, yet they still wonder why the Q-Link keeps losing pilots.

What’s that saying “,insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result”

A lot of SAA pilots are about to be offered on leave without pay deals. Some may take the two year job.

volare_737 6th Jun 2018 05:50

The problem for the South African guys is , once you spend two years in Oz and you are used to live here, it will be very hard to go back !!!!! And if you come here with your family it will be even harder !!!

donpizmeov 6th Jun 2018 06:53

Take the P1ss out of their rugby and cricket teams and they will leave and move to that other Yarpie frontier which is called Perth.

TaoQ400 6th Jun 2018 18:34

The lot who previously got in on 457 visas were promised Q400 right hand seat positions with accelerated command within a year.Instead they are stuck on the Dash 8 300 in the right seat indefinitely with no command in sight. All promises were ignored and now they are trapped in a situation where they are unhappy and have to stay with Link earning peanuts until such time when they can get their permanent residency and move on to brighter things.(hopefully)

Boo hoo. They'll get their commands when their number comes up like everyone else. Plenty of experience amongst the ranks, doesn't mean you get to jump the queue.

Konyagi 7th Jun 2018 03:33

I would have thought being ‘stuck’ in the right seat at QantasLink, earning ‘peanuts’, waiting for Australian permanent residency, a much better prospect than facing a grim uncertain future in South Africa? The fact that their Parliament has voted for a motion allowing future planned expropriation of land from white farmers without compensation, says everything about the future prospects of this country.

Don Diego 16th Jun 2018 22:11

They were never offered "accelerated command" as no such thing exists and if you have been told that then you have been misled.

So you dont like South Africans....what have they done to you?

Toruk Macto 17th Jun 2018 02:17

%10 increase in popoulation of South Africa due to the arrival of pilot recruitment teams . Hope qantaslink’s offer is competitive ?

Captain Dart 18th Jun 2018 00:07

Good luck to them. Cathay and Emirates are after South Africans too. Cathay loves them as most are experienced, capable pilots. Also, Hong Kong is popular with Saffers as if they stay for seven years and keep their noses clean the HK government gives them a 'permanent ID card' (residency).

Also, there is speculation that the ANC is going to tax South Africans wherever they live (to milk the 'white flighters'), plus they would have the 'privilege' of paying the the extortionate rates of direct and indirect Australian tax. Hong Kong tax is about 15%. So if you are going to be taxed you might as well move to a low tax regime or stay at home and be taxed once.
