RPT from Bankstown

Bankstown Airport wants to get daily passenger flights off the ground

Great news for Bankstown if this kicks off, wonder who the operator will be?

This has been kicked around many times.
My question would be: what destination would work? I can't see how Canberra is the most logical fit.

Airlinelover 18th Jul 2017 08:46

REX would be ideal for a full move there. They wouldn't need security.

the perfect routes would be Bankstown/Essendon & Bankstown/Archerfield.

The latter was about to happen using Vincent Saab 340's before they fell over 3 years ago, I think it was.

A Dornier 328 jet or similar would be perfect. Plenty of business traffic doesn't want to go anywhere Mascot, but rather Parramatta & Archerfield is well located in Brisbane, as well as Essendon in Melbourne.

Flights could operate only in peak hours, ie. 0600-0900 & 1600-2000. No daylight saving time in Qld complicates matter a bit.

Aren't they building an airport near Parramatta?

Pfft... it'll never take off. Someone would have to build all the transport links and interchanges and they would (surely?) build links to Baknkstown airport as part of this new Metro link, rather than build a whole new airport and a whole new road network and a whole new rail line.

....surely?

Bankstown holding already for RPT

ANTICIPATED AIRBORNE TRAFFIC DELAYS FOR ARR ACFT: IFR ACFT
proceeding to Bankstown via Sydney Class C or Class G airspace may experience
significant delays due terminal area traffic density. The ANTICIPATED AIRBORNE
TRAFFIC DELAYS applicable to these ACFT is 15 MIN Daily 2000-1300.

Just joining a couple of dots:
Wingaway have a RPT AOC avbl via Chartair; They have advertised for a CBR based Chief Pilot on AFAP website.

6 ex AirNZ B1900s have just been sold; to whom?

Whoever is behind this is either visionary, or crazy brave.

Stationair8 18th Jul 2017 13:04

Tamair tried it back in the early 90's, with Chieftains and AC690.
Tamworth to Bankstown every morning and then back late afternoon, pretty thin loads most days.

Well Mr TamAir is Mr JetGo RPT (paul bredereck) - wouldn't be surprised if they tried then cancelled this (like HVB-MEL this week).

What a load of rot, new airport manager arrives, issues said RPT media release, old news but run it again. The terminal area is drab, untidy and unloved just like the airport.

Sounds like something they would do but it would need some significant investment for security. A smaller aircraft type would be more logical, possibly REX?

hiwaytohell 19th Jul 2017 03:42

1,400M runway is too short for the ERJs!

there's already a rent a car mob at Bankstown. Not talking a lot of flights a day, so don't need any extra infrastructure. They could tidy up the terminal a bit, but that could be done with a bit of paint, so stuff all cost there.

No security needed at Bankstown as biggest aircraft that could get in & out with a full load, wouldn't require it.

B772 19th Jul 2017 07:13

I enjoyed seeing the Lockheed Constellation land and depart from Bankstown in years gone by.

BNEA320. Are you qualified to comment ?.

The following jet aircraft come to mind and would be suitable in and out of Bankstown to either BNE or MEB with a reasonable payload. A318, B737-600, CS100, Do328, F70

TBM-Legend 19th Jul 2017 07:18

B772 have you checked the PCN and taxyway requirements and parking areas. The Super Connie certainly doesn't operate at MTOW these days...

doubt if you can get an A318, B736 or F70 out of Bankstown with a full load & they would all require security, whereas a Do328 would not. Doubt if a CS100 could get out with a full load either.

Who mentioned BNE. I said Archerfield. MEB is restricted. Don't think an A318 or B736 would be allowed into MEB these days. F100 is the largest aircraft I think they take these days.

B772 19th Jul 2017 12:22

TBM-Legend

I understand the PCN for 11C/29C with a minimum overlay will be approx. 18.
The published tyre pressure limit is 1050 kpa (B727). Currently pavement concessions are granted for movements in excess of 20,000 kgs with 24 hours notice.

I should have added the BAe146/RJ series to the list of jet aircraft for YBSK.

I think you will find the A318, B736, F70 and CS100 will get out of YBSK with an acceptable commercial payload with a destination of BNE or MEB. Archerfield on paper is a DC3 airport. True MEB is restricted to no more than 45,000 kgs at present but this was used to keep out noisy aircraft. The Essendon noise committee has now been disbanded. FYI Bombardier say the C100 needs 1,219 metres (4,000 ft) to take off in ISA conditions, sea level, nil wind and max TOW. Note max TOW is not achievable from YBSK due to max landing weight considerations in BNE, MEL/MEB/AVV.
