World's best airline and lounges.

According to the New Zealand Herald, Qantas has missed out on being included in the top 10 best airlines. This article can found in the business section.

"Under-siege Qatar Airways has been named the world's best airline and the Air New Zealand-operated Star Alliance lounge at Los Angeles has won in the World Airline Awards.

The Star Alliance lounge in the Tom Bradley terminal won the best airline alliance lounge title at the Skytrax World Airline Awards, voted by passengers.

It is the third year running the lounge has taken the top award.

Air New Zealand manages the lounge at LAX on a day-to-day basis and this includes having an Air New Zealand manager on duty.

The 675sqm space is used by around a dozen Star Alliance carriers.

The lounge offers a bar area for socialising, a library space, a den, a study and a media room and has eight shower rooms.

It also has an open air terrace which with panoramic views of the northern runway towards Hollywood Hills. This space provides passengers with an unparalleled sensory experience, complete with fire pits and a water wall.

Air New Zealand said it offers a variety of globally inspired dishes and beverages as well as New Zealand wines throughout the year (alongside other international wines) and from time to time provide Kiwi-inspired dishes including bacon and egg pies, kiwifruit smoothies and lolly cake.

Qatar Airways was named the best airline in the world for the fourth time. The airline - which is facing a blockade from some of its Middle Eastern neighbours - also won the World's Best Business Class, the World's Best First Class Lounge and as the Best Airline in the Middle East.

The World Airline Awards are managed by international air transport rating organisation, Skytrax Research of London.

The latest survey was conducted between August 2016 and May 2017, attracting 19.87 million eligible entries with participants from 105 nationalities. The survey covered over 325 airlines.

The TOP 10

Qatar Airways
Singapore Airlines
ANA All Nippon Airways
Emirates
Cathay Pacific
EVA Air
Lufthansa
Etihad Airways
Hainan Airlines
Garuda Indonesia"

I wonder what GT will come up with now that this bit of news is out.
It's interesting that Qatar gets the top position, but after all, 19.87 million were canvassed, according to this newspaper.
What's more, Qatar want to buy a 10% stake in American Airlines!

Trying Etihad next week to Europe. Found Singapore hard to beat on our trip to Vietnam. Qantas? Don't make me laugh!

Ive only flown SQ once & they werent much better than QF
I found EK much better than both

Unless you have experienced the majority of carriers on their list it is somewhat difficult to comment, having said that, I find myself in agreement with their economy assessment.

As professional pilots we really shouldn't care about how these individual airlines are ranked, most in the top 25 are pretty good overall and differences are minor.

I'm more interested in how profitable they are for a chance of a stable career. United at 68, and American at 77 on the Skytrax list are pretty pathetic in terms of service but are profitable and hiring.

The main event is to arrive at the destination intact. Qantas has the best safety record.

Hasn't this been debated to death? Minor operator in the overall world tables of annual pax etc

Well, yeah, If you only want to count 2 years..........

A300Man 9th Jul 2017 16:00

Having flown with all of the top ten airlines (except GA) extensively, I fully agree with the precise sequencing of the top ten. Qatar is - by far - consistently the best.

TBM-Legend 9th Jul 2017 22:23

The Aussie way is to beat up QF...

Now what about that other Oz icon, Virgin Australia??

I think one has to do several flights with all of them to gain a true picture. In my list of top ten QF don't rate and Emirates scrape in at ten. SQ right up there with the best. Haven't flown with four airlines on the original list.

Traffic_Is_Er_Was 10th Jul 2017 16:04

That's no way to talk about Air New Zealand's lounge.
