Sydney 16R disable aircraft 19th Nov
Looked like was an A330 disabled at the threshold of 16R yesterday for an hour or so. Was on the ATIS and prompt NOTAM issued too.
Stopped arrivals onto 16R, and only departures using Foxtrot or south. Most of the heavies using 07 or holding. No news of why the aircraft was disabled? But good example of not taking min fuel... |
Brakes was what I was told.

Don't you just love it when the auto brakes don't disengage! :E

Could this have happened at Cairns or any other airport with a single runway?

No. It's impossible. Take flight plan gas........always.

Always carry fuel for an alternate. You never know when a piece of space junk may land in the middle of the runway! :uhoh:

It is ironic that in the hallowed branches the mighty throw 'fuel conservation' and a wanted reduction in discretionary uplift...
Great 'policy' until one of the high branch dwellers ends up for a night with 150 odd unhappy passengers at a place not intended....The consideration of single runway operations and holding not seemingly important, but alas a diversion and missing curfew would cost far more than a kilos here or there...:E.... It would be logical that a suitable alternate be carried where a single runway(Adelaide) or probability due wind (Sydney) is the 'intended' destination.. |
At least they had entertainment Tuck...:)

Mr Buzzy.
Always a consideration years ago for the B727 when going to ISA or ASP. |
