Air NZ Staff and Cameras!

Man...

You'd think people would have learned by now the consequences of uploading stuff on social media!

Air New Zealand investigating after inappropriate images of staff leaked | Stuff.co.nz

Ollie Onion 23rd Aug 2016 04:05

It never ceases to amaze me the idiotic stuff some of the younger staff members post on their social media accounts and then are totally shocked when it has repercussions. One of our crew posted that she duped the airline into providing two hotel rooms and meal vouchers for her and her boyfriend on a cancelled staff travel flight by acting like they were divorced! Not only is this extremely disingenuous but considering on staff travel you aren't entitled to that compensation it was foolhardy. Imagine her surprise when her manager read this and called her in for a meeting.

waren9 23rd Aug 2016 05:36

the surprising bit is it took this long for the herald to get hold of it

generations have been caught out by their behaviour since forever ago. nothing new under the sun.

still, luxon is gonna love this one. might take the heat off the jet fleet for 5 min.

mattyj 24th Aug 2016 11:03

This from the airline who ran safety videos with painted naked staff and also Richard Simmons mincing around..bunch of hypocrites

Square Bear 24th Aug 2016 11:56

Not sure I would be comparing the making of an Airline SAFETY video (considered some of the best in the world) with what would seem to show an ANZ Aircraft that would be close to 840 km an hour with a blow up sex doll sitting in the right hand seat.

Bit hard to defend the indefensible methinks.

But fill your boots doing so :(

aluminium hail 24th Aug 2016 19:02

I don't think there is any suggestion the doll in the right seat is during flight. It's just taken from an angle so it looks that way. Let's not jump to unfounded conclusions.

Also if that doll flew a dash 8 (clearly thats what the aircraft is) at 840kmh the photo would be the least of the crews problems!

27/09 24th Aug 2016 20:25

Unless there's other photos, from the only photos I've seen of the blow up doll it just looks like some harmless fun. One pic I saw it was pretty obvious the aircraft was A stationary and B had no pax on board.

Clever idea to post on social media? - Most certainly not.

Justification for resignation or dismissal? - I wouldn't have thought so.

Water Wings 24th Aug 2016 22:24

Bit hard to defend the indefensible methinks.
Some of the media articles have cleverly cropped the photos to make some of them look like they have been taken in flight. Other articles show less edited photos where the aircraft can clearly seen to be on the ground, the flightdeck door open and cabin servicing going on in the background.

troppo 25th Aug 2016 05:39

so much negativity. i would have put a positive spin on it...'yes, we are refreshing our inflight 'service'. as always our flight crew have first option'. :}

tartare 25th Aug 2016 06:52

That's pretty tame, considering the types of film some uniformed NZ cabin crew have appeared in, back in the day... ;)

What consequence would be "fair and just"?

I'd run with "written warning". Many of us have done stupid things in our lives - just not all of use were stupid enough to get caught. Not bad enough to warrant losing a job over IMO.

waren9 25th Aug 2016 11:46

well, there's the argument that suggests that if you haven't got the smarts to keep that sort of stuff off social media then you deserve everything you get.

having said that, if bill liu can spend $43mill to avoid a laundering case, i dare say it'd only take say, $20k to keep your job?

Square Bear 25th Aug 2016 11:52

Sad fact is that it is not about fair and just, it is about what is in that piece of paper titled "Contract of Employment".

Mine indicates doing things such as this will result in TERMINATION.

Thus "Fair and Just" does not come into it, you probably signed "Fair and Just" away when you signed your pieces of silver contract. Companies no longer do "Fair and Just, they listen to the Board, the CEO, the Press, the Fringe Groups, etc, etc, etc.

Seriously...the time of doing "fun stuff" on company time is gone. Get with the times, it is not that hard.

And really, if someones ego is such that he/she needs to post online a photo (or pass on a photo that most likely will end up on line) that IMO is not only stupid, and in this case sexually inappropriate, stupid gets what stupid does.

These days that kind of attitude is outdated, even in the bar,

FFS, just do your job, leave the social media to showing socially acceptable stuff.

Needle Knocker 25th Aug 2016 12:14

Square Bear,

Not sure what Aussie employment contracts are like, but over here often the employer loses big time when it goes to the employment court. ("Unfair dismissal").

Fair and just is a pretty big part of their MO.

"often" but not "always" I might add. Previous terminations that have been unsuccessfully appealed have to date been around alcohol, drugs, and inappropriate contact with CC though.

The difference between human beings and other animals is that we have a sense of humour and can enjoy ourselves. I wonder which Square Bear is?

scrum 25th Aug 2016 23:59

Another difference is that we have rational minds and should use them.

Who says all the staff involved posted these on their social media? That's the problem with digital - only takes one careless person and then some asshole grabs a screen shot...

A bit of humour and a few hijinks on the job build cameraderie. It's a shame we have to be so buttoned up these days for fear of being caught out.

In the age of the internet perhaps CEOs should just tell the media to grow up. After all, no one is really offended.

Also the doll is quite attractive.

Air NZ flight attendant say hacking led to photo, video leak | Stuff.co.nz

framer 28th Aug 2016 01:44

No doubt that it ending up on social media is bad....but, some of the managers now in their twilight years who will be tut tutting and nodding gravely as HR instruct lawyers to write letters were possibly involved in all night hotel room parties and flying hung over in the mid eighties. Times have changed granted, but most of us older folk would agree that things are pretty tame now compared to thirty years ago, we just didn't have cameras on hand. That said, there are photos tucked away in draws of blow up dolls flying aircraft around Australia and NZ many many years ago, and they were actually airborne.

Square Bear 28th Aug 2016 11:57

There you go…some on PPRuNe reckon it is ok to post such pictures, ...therefore that makes it ok?

So when your company decides that they no longer requires your services due to you posting things that appear to bring the company into disrepute, one can go to court and use the “PPRuNe Defence” (Gee they guys on the website thought it was funny). If that fails maybe try the famous Chewbacca Defence as was successfully used on The Simpsons.

Laugh, bag me, whatever you want, but I assure you that if the PPRuNe /Chewbacca Defence doesn’t work, I wouldn't imagine many of the guys supporting the idea on this thread will be paying any of your bills.

Bloggs, how come you are so freaking ANAL about radio calls, but your posts on this thread seem to see no value in contract obligations, nor concerned if guys get tea and bikkies over stupid and unnecessary social media posting. Different issues float different peoples boats I guess.

And in answer to your question as to what sort of animal I am, …mature survivalist comes to mind, and that is an attitude I pass on to others, both in the flying side, and the “keep getting paid” part of it.

Should I care about the pictures, nope, ....do I care...yep...Bob Hawke called my profession nothing more than a bus driver, stupid social media posts like this indicate the bus driver has a higher standard.

My last post on the subject, but I can assure you my flight deck wont have blow up lady dolls, it will be professional, and yep, even without such sex toys in my flight deck, we will probably have a great day. Anyway, fill your boots with your flight deck (read YOUR COMPANIES flight deck) .:ok:
