Aussie aircraft in ufo video
 

Hello , newbie here , first post .
I understand that this may be controversial for some but I'd like to share something with you that you may find interesting .
On Wednesday 18th May I got home from work , made a coffee , checked my emails and went outside for a cigarette .
In the sky I noticed something odd and grabbed my video camera .

At 1:05 seconds at approximately 5:38pm Jetstar529 flies past in the background .

There was something very similar about a year ago around northern Victoria. Quite a few of us Airline crew had reported it to Melbourne centre during the afternoon. If we were at FL400, the abnormally large white 'light' had to be at least four times higher. ATC were suggesting it was a NASA research balloon! It was too large to be a star, too bright to define and appeared stationary at a very high altitude.

If that's what it was, it ain't a UFO. Supprised that no one else saw it and rang the press! The media would have had a field day with this I recon.

At the risk of sounding like a nutter (oh alright a bigger nutter) does anyone NOT believe in UFO's?

Does anyone think we are the only planet in the cosmos (a) with an intelligent life form and (b) smart enough to send life forms to have a snoop around another planet?

I mean we, as a human race, can be pretty dumb and we managed it, so why wouldn't another planets inhabitants?

Let's face it if there was intelligent life on Mars, Pluto, the moon or wherever and the various probes, spaceships etc came to wandering by they would be sitting there and go "hey there is a ufo!" :)

Sounds odd, but I can't reconcile that of the squillions of planets we are the only one with intelligent life. The odds of that occurring seem unlikely....

That said I have never seen anything "extraterrestrial" in all my years of flying.

Agreed, the chances of earth being the only planet in the universe to harbour life....is pretty remote.
However, the chances of other life forms reaching our planet and flying though earths atmosphere....are equally remote.
It doesn't matter which planet you are from, the laws of physics remain.
The distances involved with inter solar system/galactic travel are the biggest hurdle. Speeds of at or above the speed of light would be required to cover the vast distances. The problem is that the energy required to propel an object at or even near the speed of light is astronomical in itself.
The mass of an object increases arbitrarily as it approaches the speed of light and an infinite amount of energy is actually required to reach or surpass that speed.

Good point! I must admit I hadn't given the whole proposition a lot of thought other than to speculate that we can't be the only planet with so called intelligent lifeforms.

We saw it over SA on the early morning of the 19th May 2016. It's a NASA high altitude balloon at 100,000ft. It appears that the balloon is currently in the South Pacific, however, on the morning we tracked it over South Australia Airspace.

Snakecharma, the chance of us evolving to where we are now is infinitesimally small- and we aren't capable of interstellar travel. Given the odds and the number of things that needed to align perfectly it's stunning that we exist at all.

So what are the chances that someone/ something else has evolved to our stage let alone to the more advanced stage of being capable of interstellar travel?

I think it was 1966 Carl Sagan announced that there were two important criteria for a planet to support life: The right kind of star, and a planet the right distance from that star. Given the roughly octillion — 1 followed by 24 zeros — planets in the universe, there should have been about septillion — 1 followed by 21 zeros — planets capable of supporting life.

As knowledge of the universe increased, it's became clear that there are far more factors necessary for life than Sagan supposed. His two parameters grew to 10 and then 20 and then 50, and so the number of potentially life-supporting planets decreased accordingly. The number dropped to a few thousand planets and kept on plummeting.

As factors continued to be discovered, the number of possible planets hit zero, and kept going. In other words, the odds turned against any planet in the universe supporting life, including this one. Probability said that even we shouldn’t be here.

It's commonly accepted today that there are more than 200 known parameters necessary for a planet to support life — every single one of which must be perfectly met, or the whole thing falls apart. Without a massive planet like Jupiter nearby, whose gravity will draw away asteroids, a thousand times as many would hit Earth’s surface. The odds against life in the universe are simply astonishing.

So no, not a believer in alien life. :D

I once saw something similar, but triangular in shape and white like a huge paper dart, over Scotland. As did the whole lunch queue of about a hundred cadets; we were waiting outside the mess tent at Cultybraggen camp. It was stationary for about 30 minutes then suddenly disappeared.

But it was in 1970.

It's actually quite easy theoretically to travel vast distances very quickly. We are only just beginning to understand gravity and how it can be manipulated. Hell, only a few years ago Gravity was supposed to be constant. Now we are beginning to understand gravity waves travel at speed.

Give and object enough mass and it bends space time. Time slows down the closer you get to a mass. For instance time is faster in orbit around the earth than on the surface.

So theoretically you can bend space time (wormhole) to a destination with a large concentration of gravity. You can also slow time. It just requires lots of energy. We haven't figured that bit out yet....Perhaps a breakthrough in dark energy shortly.

The theory I tend to believe is that by the time any species becomes intelligent enough for interstellar travel, it will most likely wipe itself out first... we're tracking that way pretty well. :)

Now THAT I agree with Derfred.

If there were intelligent life out there somewhere, then surely they'd be intelligent enough to visit somewhere a lot more interesting than Earth.

Unless out of morbid curiosity or abject boredom I guess.

Like the kind of urge that drives an 8 year old to burn ants with a magnifying glass.

And if the aliens are so superior in intelligence and technology, why do they only allow themselves to be seen by loonies, and what is their big interest in anal probes?
