Food for thought
I came across this article and thought the authors' comment about carefully engineered conflict between the workers was interesting and highly applicable to our industry in this day and age of outsourcing and subcontractors.
And that's exactly what the bosses want! They want us fighting over who has the bigger pile of crumbs so we don't realize they made off with almost the whole damn cake. Why are you angry about fast food workers making two bucks more an hour when your CEO makes four hundred TIMES what you do? It's in the bosses' interests to keep your anger directed downward, at the poor people who are just trying to get by, like you, rather than at the rich assholes who consume almost everything we produce and give next to nothing for it. |
The divide and conquer stratagem is as old as mankind. There has been enormous efforts over the centuries (religions, Monarchs, Dictators, despots & other rulers of all stripes & colours) to try to convince the gullible masses that the self interest of the small group of ruling elite does not apply.

One only needs to reflect on the (mis)conduct of our esteemed politicians to understand the double standards that go on in the real world.

Yep, keep focussing on Gay marriage, recognising Aboriginals in the Constitution, dancing with the stars, my kitchen rules and the footy.
Meanwhile your rights are being eroded in the name of combatting not "terrorism" but "non violent extremism" - which means anyone Tony Abbot does;t like. We are a climate change laughing stock and our foreign policy is what Washington tells us it is. |
All well and good but I challenge this industry to get its sh!t together enough to say "enough is enough". 89' is still too recent perhaps? I don't know. I doubt a rematch would end the same way though, social media (pprune included) would make it a more even fight.

Not many pilots in oz are surviving on crumbs. I think the article was talking about the "crumbs" allocated to fast food workers. |
An educated person might have taken the ethical lesson from this article and not been so literal.

here we are bickering amongst ourselves about what an educated person may or may not see in the article.
Proof enough to me that the pilot group in the same boat as the fast food worker, our "crumbs" may be larger but they still are crumbs compared to the CEO's. I shake my head in despair!! |

Didn't the high priests of the Oz climate change religion push to close what would've been a very lucrative (for Australia) coal mining operation? I think it was an overseas investment and meant the coal would've been used offshore and not in Australia. I can't recall the exact details - only glossed over the article and had a laugh. Maybe that's what Sunfish is on about.
