A good option for travel BNE-LHR with a daily nonstop YVR-LHR and about 10 other options with 1 stop YVR-LHR.

Why ex BNE?

Surely it would make more sense to use Archerfield? I thought EVERYONE hated Big Ugly Airports? (BUAs)?

AC doing BNE/YVR will steel marketshare from NZ (many ex BNE pax want to avoid awful SYD like the plague) & also some of those flying BNE/LAX/YVR.


Only thing is many want their QF ff points & many families actually want to stopover in LA & you can use Qf ff pts to fly LAX/SEA or to various ports in Canada.


Those who want convenience will fly nonstop.


NZ from memory, used to codeshare with some AC flights(both are star alliance), so expect some tie up.


The other interesting bit, is AA/QF talking about LAX/AKL which will also impact NZ.

looks to me like qf is the loser here. their share of inbound north american pax diluted further

same old story. if qf had more of the right aircraft they could already be doing this flying themselves

qf and aa? yeah. wonder how much flying they will give away like they did with ek?

just don't forget that QF has something like 10 million members in their ff programme. People often pay more to get a few points, which they don't even know where or how they'll use in future.


QF really needs some 787's or perhaps JQ could gazumpt AC by doing BNE/YVR a few days a week with 787's ?


Actually, an even better idea would be for JQ to fly not only BNE/YVR, but also HNL/YVR at least a few days a week (they should be able to get the traffic rights, we think - FJ had them)


That way, JQ could offer nonstops to YVR in both directions & also option of a stopover in Hawaii.


Perhaps even JQ should operate SYD/YVR, sharing with QF just like they both do SYD/HNL now.

Weaker dollar means stronger US-Au traffic, who seem to flock to UA/DL/AA first. Same on the reverse, expect traffic will be weaker due to low dollar.

United going direct daily into Melbourne wont help QF, Virgin shifting to Daily Brisbane just adds to their problems also.

Air NZ are probaly more vulnerable，all it will take is the rumoured relaunch of QF/AA onto NZ-USA routes and there goes their profitability.

Id still take another carrier over AC, even via NZ!. It's like a Canadian version of, the ever dreadful United :oh:

think the exchange rate is overplayed, especially when many U.S. hotels/resorts take the AUD$ into a/c, when they normally get lots of Australians.


Kiwis are already holding off booking their AKL/LAX & AKL/SFO flights apparently, pending an announcement on AA flying LAX/AKL.

So where do you come up with that bullsh*t from?

hey rocket scientist, yield management. Ever heard of that ? As soon as AA announcement, bookings dropped significantly.

I hate to tell you mate, but the average public do not follow route announcements let alone industry discussion of what is possible in the future. Joe Bloggs books based on what his travel agent or booking search engine spits out.


Sure, some savvy frequent flyers might be keeping tabs but considering any route commencement is likely to be well outside the booking timetable for such individuals (business trips etc), their booking habits are unlikely to change.


Unless you work in revenue management for Air New Zealand/United/Delta/Virgin or whoever, all your comments remain nothing more than conjecture.
