SAAB is Great aeroplane in the winter. Have already had a heatstroke passenger hospitalised on the western run.
So what are you saying? are you saying that the SAAB is not air-conditioned? I actually thought they had a twin pack?
My understanding was that if there was no ground cart available, then they would do single engine turns, am I wrong??

And why would the crew insist that the pax stay on board at Charleville
Were the crew over at Pete's cafe enjoying the aircon and coffee
To me this just sounds ridiculous, I'd really like to know why

OTP

Story goes the western agents got shafted on turnaround fees but are making upto double on penalty clauses for them turning up late. Hooking up airconditioner's carts at every port will cause longer delays than just letting everyone off. (Watch the FDL) Theyre let off in WNR so they can watch the crew eat. This goes for seven years, won't be long and they will start driving to LRE or CTL to jump on the Dash. Scratcher will be starting to regret not helping his old employer secure the work. Maybe the best regional airline award they wave around is a one horse event.

A scratch each way?

Well everyone knows that the orange haired Kungfu Kid goes wherever the coin is offered. But to be honest he was shafted pretty ruthlessly by his former employer so I don't think he regrets much, plus he still kicks around with his old mate Thick Miney, peddling their so-called sales skills (which certainly doesn't include obedience to safety, compliance and regulations). However that's how things roll in FNQ. In fact you have a CASA office in Cairns, at the airport, yet the only time CASA visit the airport is to buy coffee! Safety, what safety?
And how is two dogs, too dogs, or whatever he calls himself these days since his 'not so robust airline' went tits up? What's his latest venture?

Still here, sunshine.

...Theyre let off in WNR so they can watch the crew eat. ...
So crew aren't entitled to a break and a meal?? One can only assume this is what it in fact is...:ugh:

There is no way in Hell that any crew would keep PAX on board a non air-conditioned aircraft for that length of time. In fact I would question keeping anyone on board, Air-conditioned or not, for any significant time if there were alternatives available.

Something doesn't Gel?

Toodogs little non-robust airline used to do it all the time! Probably one of the reasons he doesn't have an airline any more :=

Reasons for the 2D downfall wasn't equipment, start looking at who won the tender and where certain manager now works as a start. The old machines were incredibly reliable in a very challenging operating environment. Current operator will butcher this every summer with SAAB and not likely to ever have the same level of pax support. The pax will simply drive a different direction and catch a qf service as was the case when a SAAB last operated out there! The gulf is the same and govt is getting a lot of heat, next dash operator will get this work based on non conformance/poor performance by incumbent is my bet.

Agree Krusty. Something doesn't gel. I'm guessing it's all propaganda from local councils.

Justa Dash; did you manage to read the creditors report for Skytrans? If you did you would have seen that had they been awarded the Qld Govt contracts they would have been in Administration within 6 months anyway. The report says they were trading insolvent even when they had the contracts. Maybe that is one of the reasons they weren't awarded?

$108 million in debt - silly sausages

Just a dash, interesting article. What about this bit;

However, the court documents did reveal sole director Simon Wild is looking to be paid more than $28.6 million
Serious? For what? Recouping his annual bonus? Recouping money spent in Taipans tickets? It's amazing how Wild blamed the Queensland government and REX, yet Skytrans fell over with $108 million in debt before REX even flew the first flight in January!! What a load of balone. And I see he even owes mummy close to $3 million dollars. As the tender process is made up I three components with due diligence being one component and finances etc being another it is pretty clear why they didn't win the contract.
The more time that passes the more truth comes out, and if the publics comments on the Daily Mercury are anything to go by I think Wild won't be trusted again for a long long time.
The Queensland government made the right choice.

ABC Update

West Wing Aviation to fly Skytrans banner again across far north Queensland - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

West Wing Aviation will take over the air operator's certificate of Skytrans in far north Queensland and resume flights under that company's banner before the end of March.
Skytrans closed in January and laid off more than 100 staff, blaming higher operating costs and the loss of Queensland Government contracts.
West Wing Aviation (WWA) started flying to remote Cape York communities in January so they were not isolated by the sudden closure of Skytrans.
Then-Queensland transport minister Scott Emerson said in January that West Wing would fly to Aurukun, Bamaga, Coen, Pormpuraaw, Kowanyama and Lockhart River as a short-term arrangement until a permanent carrier was secured.
WWA spokesman Michael Thinee said the company had been operating a number of Skytrans routes since January and planned to resurrect the company's name.
"We intend to not only cover the former Skytrans network completely, but also interconnect the Cape regions and add the additional ports of Weipa and Horn onto the network, because we've already got an operating base out of Horn Island," he said.
Mr Thinee said the company also hoped to hire dozens of former Skytrans staff.
"We're looking forward to being in the sky Monday 30 at the latest with Dash 8 aircraft, and expanding the network [so] the communities in north Queensland get a complete service from the one operator connecting them within community, rather than having to hub back via Cairns all the time," he said.

BNEA320 24th Mar 2015 00:44

so 2 separate AOC's & separate companies but with same or very similar staff. That sounds complicated.

Ejector 26th Mar 2015 00:03

Are they actually going to call it Skytrans?

BNEA320 26th Mar 2015 03:12

looks like it. You'd think Westwing name would have high enough profile in NQ.

BPA 26th Mar 2015 08:03

According to a statement released by West Wing, the Skytrans name will only be used on the Cape routes with the West Wing name used on all the other routes.

BNEA320 29th Mar 2015 01:46

when did Rex operate jets ?
