QF to remove slides from some aircraft

Don't carriers these days use slide rafts instead of life rafts? It does restrict the aircraft to a 'land' operation. In QF's case no more 737's to NZ?

Qantas to remove life rafts on some flights

MaxFL360 24th Sep 2014 05:39

think you will find jet connect operates qantas flights across the tasman. These aircraft are NZ registered and will still conduct these flights with life rafts. Real QANTAS domestic flights have no need for life rafts as the rules state that life rafts won't be required unless the flight operates more than 400 miles off the coast

Ah point taken. Back in the days when I flew around the world QF operated all their flights to all their destinations.

And in breaking news qantas has announced they will continue to use the name qantas on all flights they operate under the qantas livery. Qantas are proud of the name qantas and despite of attempts by some qantas unions qantas is adamant that qantas will carry on. Qantas staff are said to be in agreement with qantas on this ground breaking stance and qantas hopes that both qantas and the staff who work at qantas can help progress the brand qantas in the proud qantas tradition. Qantas remains proudly qantas.

Here we go again.

It is NOT true that all Qantas flights across the Tasman are ZK registrations.

Why does this misinformation persist on this forum?

All Qantas B737 flight to NZ are operated by Jetconnect, except several flights to Queenstown. Unless of course Jetconnect breaks down or is short of crew, then QF mainline are called to pick up the pieces.

Remove slides?

The news item is about life raft removal.
Can I humbly suggest the subject life rafts are not door mounted slides but additional dedicated life rafts.

Correct. QF B738's do not have door mounted slide/rafts like many other aircraft do. Something to do with the door design. The slides are in the door, but they are not "rafts". The rafts are in the aisle roof. 1 FWD, 2 Mid cabin. These are the rafts in question.

Jet connect about to take over all Queenstown sectors.
Feel the engagement rising.....

Also worth noting is that Virgin have been doing this for years. If a virgin 737 is put on a flight that is to fly more than 400nm from land the engineers jump on and fit the rafts to make it legal, or if the particular airframe regularly does the DPS run they carry the slides permanently. No news here.
