rumour-travel agency group looking at TSV/DPS

just heard a rumour that one of the big travel agency groups is looking at regular charters TSV/DPS (old Strategic/Air Australia) route.

Think it was operated up to 3 times a week with an A320 which was probably too much.

Apparently, the group looking at doing this, might start only with peak holiday period & the aircraft might continue on DPS/TSV/AKL, meaning it would give all the Kiwis living in & around TSV an easier way to get to New Zealand rather than having to go via CNS, BNE, SYD or MEL.

It would also offer the only direct flight AKL/DPS. Must be a lot of Kiwis wanting to go to DPS.

what/whose aircraft would be used ?

Air Australia may have been onto something. Look at BNE/HNL. After Air Australia fell over, HA started their old route BNE/HNL with 3 a week, now 4 a week & from 15DEC JQ doing 3 a week, so will be 7 a week (not daily, as Tuesdays & Sundays will have 2 nonstops BNE/HNL 2 hours apart)

HNL/BNE will be two nonstops on Mondays only & then everyday except Tuesdays.

Maybe some old Air Australia staff are involved with travel agency group ?

It would also offer the only direct flight AKL/DPS.
Air NZ runs a seasonal 767 service non stop AKL-DPS.

yes NZ does 2-3 x 763's a week June-12 October, so there's obviously demand.

With a quick stop in TSV it wouldn't take much longer than a nonstop.

At an Australian airport!!!!!!!!!!!

TSV has no international at all at present.

Am sure that airport would be very keen to get ANY business it can. No transferring terminals required.

Maybe they would even keep thru passengers on the aircraft to save time.

Does that B1900 private ops still operate to Moresby? They get customs and immigration guys out for that plus there is the port that takes international ships so there are those guys in place however when they go to the airport the one flight is paying all their wages for that time rather than a number of flights paying for the customs and immigration like what happens at most airports.
