just another reason to NOT fly QF !!!!

QF needed another reason to not fly QF like a hole in the head.

Now they are downgrading frequent flyer points earned from 1 JULY for those not on fully flexible fares.

Many people who pay their own fares, don't fly on flexible fares (eg. small business types).

In fact something like 90% of people on flexible fares never change anything.

This will simply piss off, customers QF can't afford to piss off.

At a time when many punters think QF is already stuffed, this is last thing QF needs to do.

Bloody bean counter idea, which obviously wasn't run through the PR department.

Maybe the PR department doesn't exist anymore ?

Extract from email just recd. from QF:-

Effective for travel from 1 July 2014, the number of Qantas Points and Status credits you earn will change when you fly with Qantas and Jetstar Airlines. Put simply, these changes will mean that you'll earn more Qantas Points and Status credits when you choose more flexible fares. At the same time, we're reducing the Qantas Points you'll earn on our lower fares to reflect your spend.

QF might end up in situation, where a certain % of people who fly QF now on paid tickets, will only fly QF on ff tickets & fly VA & other carriers on paid tickets.

(many small business owners earn lots of ff points through credit cards & not flying)

I haven't received the email yet. If only Virgin would accept all my QF points…..

fulmar 27th Mar 2014 11:47

Of course you could always cash them in while the going is good. My 150,000 points would get a $1,000 dollar myer digital gift card or 2 gopro+silver cams and points change.
Calculating on flights this is worth around $1,200 off applicable qantas flights assuming red e deal fares are compared with. Or up to $4,000 on a j class fare-if you could ever get one of course (oops sorry got distracted by that pig flying by)
To get practical value from the FFp you really must be flying a lot on flex fares and use the points to upgrade.
But what am I to talk- there are entire websites devoted to this area.
I think those gopros look good.

BNEA320 27th Mar 2014 11:48

it takes a while to send out 10,000,000 emails !

If VA are smart (wouldn't be hard to be smarter than stupid QF) they will react in a way that grabs more QF ff's.

AEROMEDIC 27th Mar 2014 11:53

Good grief!!!!
If true, Joyce must know about it, signed off on it and will not lose any sleep about it's poor timing. This just gets worse and worse.

ALAEA Fed Sec 27th Mar 2014 11:57

Their loyal customers are going nuts on the Frequent Flyer forum. Is this part of the master plan?

t_cas 27th Mar 2014 12:35

The velocity banner add that I see at the bottom of this thread is ironic.

Lunatic in charge of the asylum?

He's lost the plot. Must be some kind of mental illness, or perhaps he truly wants to become "Australia's Most hated man"? Screwing all his employees is one thing, but I think he has underestimated what might happen if he screws hundreds of thousands of Aussies out of their points :=
Will the Poliies be affected? Perhaps he will shut down the Chairmans lounge as well?
Alan, your time on Australian soil is coming to a rapid end. Bye bye

VNAV_PTH 27th Mar 2014 14:28

Alan knows exactly what he's doing. It's all part of the plan to beat those union bastards. Once QF is rooted, he'll re-paint the machines silver with an orange star and re-employ everyone for less! Alan logic.

Wasn't hard to work out what the content of the email was going to be before I opened it up, this will no doubt have a negative impact on their business clientele. I had the opurtunity to fly with Virgin a few weeks ago for the first time in years, must admit that the experience wasn't as good as what you get with Qantas, however it was acceptable and enjoyable. I think it's about time to jump ship and burn up all the QF FF points before they are eroded away into thin air.

Kiwiconehead 27th Mar 2014 20:11

I Virginned up to Cairns last week, had one of the new interior aircraft and the seats were quite comfortable.

Just a bit of hassle with my toolbox - but that was the agent booking my ticket.

I'd like to try out their lounge - my QF Club expires in May - considering whether to renew it.

Killer Loop 27th Mar 2014 20:45

Didn't even open the email, I jumped over to Virgin a couple of years ago for personal travel. Only travel QF if the company books it.

fritzandsauce 27th Mar 2014 20:56

I guess this explains the recent free QF FF membership offer.

The Virgin Lounge is far superior to the standard Qantas Club. It is much less crowded, more stylish and you don't get the feeling that you are second class as you see the more "valued" customers head into the Business Lounge.

The new MEL VA Lounge is amazingly good. You wouldn't recognise it as the old Golden Wing anymore.

V-Jet 27th Mar 2014 21:42

I'm the last person to support BGA, but Voz have just opened their lounges up on a pay to get in basis, which will add to crowding.

Inane Elaine is a moron, an indescribably incompetent fool who is now backed into a corner and is running around faster and faster in ever decreasing circles.

Obviously time for another pointless, grandstanding party somewhere exotic - that always fixes things.
