Here we go again

Talk about back to the future, rumour has it our largest Low cost carriers northern base is soon to shut down and be replaced by a new southern mainland base. Hope my good mates don't get stuffed around too much like they did last time with the apple isle.

Berealgetreal 22nd Nov 2013 11:09

Not nice but common knowledge when you join this carrier. Maybe one for the EBA.

Capt Claret 22nd Nov 2013 11:11

Nig&Nog,

Do you refer to a northern Qld base or perhaps the Top End?

nig&nog 22nd Nov 2013 18:17

Capt Claret I heard it was the top end so the east coast is fine.

bdcer 22nd Nov 2013 22:34

I'd love to know your source n&n, as I've heard they're planning to grow the top end eventually.

The Green Goblin 23rd Nov 2013 01:28

The MOU base freeze guys are probably having wet dreams right now.

Unfortunately it's just a teenage crush. It'll never happen.....

poonpossum 23rd Nov 2013 09:38

Nothing like ambiguity, right guys?

Its the Pleats 25th Nov 2013 02:19

I'm guessing what you're trying to say is that Jetstar is going to close the Darwin base and reopen Adelaide?

We've been hearing this for years. There will be a lot of happy pilots if it happens thats for sure!

Ted Nugent 25th Nov 2013 04:21

My gut tells me closure around April 14, don't hold your breath re ADL.

Here we go again

Chief and sidekick in Darwin on monday for two sched meetings plus private briefings on rqst.

bdcer 3rd Dec 2013 21:01

So what happened Monday? Did these predictions come true?

Its the Pleats 9th Dec 2013 01:05

ABC website says its happening. That was 1hr and 4 minutes ago - thats a long time in aviation these days, plans may have changed!!

3 planes from DRW and 1 from MEL to make ADL a 4 frame base.

Capt_SNAFU 9th Dec 2013 02:07

Confirmed

Jetstar to close Darwin base and cut NT flights

DrPepz 9th Dec 2013 02:14

After QF and EK started their partnership, there is no way for anyone to book a JQ flight to SIN connecting to a BA flight to LHR. In the past DRW pax could connect to QF Europe services from SIN. Now that option is not possible. Go on qf.com and they force you to fly DRW-PER-DXB-LHR or DRW-SYD-DXB-LHR which is a massive backtrack.

Plus Silk Air is a full service carrier and offers connections all over Europe and Asia, I'm sure plenty of QF pax would have shifted to them. So for QF to blame Silk Air and Air Asia is rubbish - they do not offer any options for pax to go anywhere ex SIN anymore. It's like the retimed QF72 to arrive in Perth at 4am. Introduce a flight with a lousy arrival time and no feed, then blame external factors for the route's demise.

Long Bay Mauler 9th Dec 2013 02:15

120 new positions?

Really?

Wouldn't it be a case of rearranging the chairs on the Titanic, surely.

Ollie Onion 9th Dec 2013 02:48

So Green Goblin 'it will never happen'. Just proves nothing is beyond these guys. All that grief they caused 4 years ago with the shutting of ADL for the new Northern Hub, you want to cost cut!! Start with cutting down on ridiculous management decisions.

Ida down 9th Dec 2013 03:06

Is OOL ok?

NEW A320s sitting in France with no home costing big $$$

And the Brand New A320s all painted in Jetstar colours now mount up. Apparently its $30M a year just to have them sit there at the Airbus factory in France where we are supposed not the know about them.. How many did they order? Wasnt it like 100? The Jetstar losses are real. AJ was like a kid in a candy store and now his teeth are rotting too. Pack of cards ready go over

The Green Goblin 9th Dec 2013 03:17

Well it's logical I suppose.

Once the base was setup to fail with no more Melbourne and Sydney flights feeding into the SIN & DPS sectors the writing was on the wall.

I feel sorry for the guys who have made a life up there. It was a great base with the best flying on the network.

I hope the pressure from the vocal minority regarding the base freeze are happy. You've got what you wanted at the expense of a majority who were happy there.

Livs Hairdresser 9th Dec 2013 03:27

One of your best posts GG.

Right, now that we've covered that .... let's move on to how the MOU pilots assassinated JFK and started smallpox.

waren9 9th Dec 2013 03:28

it was always gonna happen goblin.

its the adl right of return guys that i feel sorry for.

Iron Bar 9th Dec 2013 03:41

Not such a good few days for some AFAP/JPC types hey Gob? Spare me your hypocritical hogwash.

The viability of the base has nothing to do with the vocal minority nor AIPA. The RoR guys and those who sought to live in Darwin long term are being hard done by here. (Credit to JQ who have apparently put together a very good relocation package)

Perhaps some industrial representatives may be a little more circumspect about playing around with other peoples lives in pursuit of naive and ill-conceived industrial goals. You should have listened.

Gob,

"Enjoy your 100 hour months and 4 sector days on the east coast. You reap what you sow. You'll find you have more time at home commuting than what you will based on the east coast."

Is that why your much vaunted base freeze was so zealously pursued in the first place? Because the Darwin flying is so good and the East coast flying so bad?

Hush yer gob.

Unbelievable.

nig&nog 9th Dec 2013 04:27

I hate it when I'm right because I do feel for my good mates that have to move again. I hope it's there last move for their families sake this time.

Great to see the "Spirit of Australia" sending jobs to Singapore. Good work AJ, asking the Australian people for money then employing Singaporeans. A$sh@le.

Angle of Attack 9th Dec 2013 11:03

The Host is bleeding and the parasite follows, once QF left SIN the writing was on the wall for DRW Jetstar traffic. Jetstar cannot survive stand alone, it needed the feeder traffic, without it its a sitting duck as the massive flying cancellations out of DRW just show. Sad really.

TBM-Legend 9th Dec 2013 23:00

It's simple, if you don't like the hand that feeds you move on...

Livs Hairdresser 9th Dec 2013 23:13

Totally agree, TBM.

Joyce and Jetstar don't like mainline, they should both move on.

TBM-Legend 10th Dec 2013 01:28

Wait until "The Tiger" attacks its keeper the same way as Jetstar...
