United 747 crisis
 

Ch 9 is predicting world war III, reporting that a United 747 is dumping fuel in preparation for a return to SYD.
The cause, a blown tire(s).

I'm no 747 jockey but I can't picture the thing doing an uncommanded barrel roll as a result of this failure.

On a side note, unless there's a risk to other systems why can't they just continue to the US and have a just as dangerous landing there and save the dump (chemtrails? :E )? I wouldn't know but I guess there's a reason.

Fair enough. I'll be interesting to see what this does to the runway.

The Pacific is a very lonely place to find out that some other systems have been affected by the tyre failure.
Not all damage makes itself evident straight away and the continued long flight may very well exacerbate a problem that is not yet evident.

What doesn't the 747 haven't any feature to stop the wheels from rotating as they retract? That way can't damage anything in the wheel well from rotating wheeling and shredded rubber

Who Cares, the damage is done when the tyre blows, not the subsequent retraction. When the sidewall bursts, the main section is flung with great force and, depending on which wheel blows, can do substantial damage to lower wing skin, flaps, fuselage skin, fairings and can sever hydraulic lines.

I have experienced one of these events, and I was impressed with how well the hydraulic plugs worked so that I still had all four hydraulic systems working despite 4 lines on the strut being severed by the force of the tyre failure.

PS. The B747 does have in-flight brakes.

Ok it's time to return to being serious...Sydney beer owns American p*ss water...but can't disagree about the women...but at least the Sydney women are better than Melbourne women.

Oh yes talking of beers I had way too many when I posted to even think of the damage done when tyre explode or de laminated.
I guess that's why there is a zero blood alcohol limit. I really should just go to bed now.
