Been done before. Failed big time
Will fail again. |
It's not much more than a one hour drive from Bendigo to Melbourne. At worst two hours in peak hour.
6:32 train gets to Southern cross at 8:30 for $35.00 first class one way. Struggling to see how $130.00 each way is going to be value for money for a 30 min flight (plus check-in times, getting from EN to anywhere useful, etc.) Good luck to them, but I can't see the numbers working out. DIVOSH! |
I wish them well in their adventure.
Having 30 min turn-around times all day might make it interesting. Melb's hot Nthly's will test a few unseasoned travelers in a 'Bandit' Routing thru Melb's busy airspace both ways will am sure give them some 'extra' time en-route meaning $$$'s As has been mentioned the Rd trip (train is the way to go short distance like BDG-ML) is now a lot better & taking into account the 30 mins prior to dep arrival (most will turn up earlier) & the general handling times both ends will mean time wise very little difference. Approx $70 direct costs to drive to ML & back with no taxi/tram/bus fares to consider, mid price fare is over 4 times that. There's a better guarantee that you will arrive by car than A/C as well. I can just see it now. Businessman goes down to the Bdg Airport to catch the early flight Friday morning as arranged to close a deal b4 lunch time. He arrives at the airport, nasty thick Fog, nobody is gong anywhere. He's told sorry we can't T/off & we can't guarantee when it will lift & all the flights this morning are fully booked (they wish). Too late for this guy to get back in his car & drive to ML to close that deal, deals done alright, he will never go by plane again to ML. BDG has a high unemployment demographic population, like Tom Skerritt said in Top Gun...."you made a bad decision":-) Also I wonder what back up plane/s they have to keep this tight sched. The Fog Gods love BDG, interesting times ahead & I hope some guys get a few hrs multi crew turbine exp b4 they go under. Still best of luck to this crowd, they'll need it:ok: Wmk2 |
I wish them well.
Personally I can't understand the business model, but hey I just fly the things. |
Another mob flinging themselves on the altar of aviation just so they can fly an aircraft.
There was a hit from my yoof that went along the lines of "When will they ever learn." Stallie can only echo your sentiments. Demo, population and distance all wrong. Did I see "Bandit" ? also wrong but probably cheap to buy. Investors must be the last of the hard bitten thrill seekers. But I've been wrong before. |
Business Model! Pah! We don' need no steenkin' models. We doin' it fo' real!

Might merge down the track with JetGo to offer a dynamic service!

Might pay to spend a little more that $299 on a website and run a spell check over it too.

Unless there are two of them, this Goldair character has been around for ages. From memory, he was going to take over where Ansett left off.
Every few years this one pops up, only to quietly go away again. Wet dreams of times past. |
An oldie but goodie:---
"There's only one way to make a million in Aviation, start with two" Good luck to them, if they ever have an Aircraft airborne, they'll need it. |
Mach mate.
Jogged memory, correct, BS sniffer on high alert. Looked at website. Confirmed a long held theory. Bandit going to be really busy. Not. Hope there aren't any angel investors with Branson dreams. Fools, money, parted, easily all in the same sentence methinks. |
My bet is it will never get off the ground, he has been around for years, trying to start I can't remember how many airlines.

but probably cheap to buy |
Bendigo-Sydney would make more sense. [Not much more sense - but the alternative 11 hour drive is no fun and there ain't no competing train between that city pair].
|
They have their name on a sign at the aerodrome, that's about as much as I've heard.

There are a good few regional centres in Vic that could do with a direct link to other state capitals. Ballarat with a population of around 100,000 people. The Ballarat to Tulla airport shuttle bus makes a roaring trade. It averages way over a couple of hundred people a day in each direction. Same goes for Bendigo and Shepparton
What is needed from talking to fellow bus travellers is: Bendigo to Sydney - Brisbane - Adelaide and Gold Coast Ballarat to Sydney - Adelaide, Brisbane and Gold Coast. Shepparton to Sydney - Brisbane and Gold Coast. Most people would even be happy putting up with a Metro 23 for a few years if it meant not having the hour and a half ordeal on the shuttle bus. Does Sydney and Brisbane have any slots preserved for regional routes legislated. Could Bankstown be used for low capacity RPT. |
In peak hour, it would probably take you as long to get from Bankstown to Mascot as it would from Bendigo to Tulla.
