Air Niugini - B737 NG?
Gate_15L,
The following is from the www.Kokoda70.org website. It could be a source of whatever rumours you've picked up? "Project 737 is an Air Niugini initiative that will see a Boeing 737 carry special livery commemorating the 70th Anniversary of Kokoda. Each year Air Niugini transports hundreds of trekkers from Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns to Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea to commence their Kokoda trekking experience. For many trekkers their first experience of Papua New Guinea is when they board an Air Niugini flight. In our own way, Air Niugini has helped put Kokoda on the map. So now it is time to put the Kokoda map on Air Niugini! Our Boeing 737 “flying billboard” will carry a map of the Owen Stanley Ranges, where the Kokoda campaign was fought, emblazoned on the side of the aircraft. The aircraft will create unprecedented awareness for Papua New Guinea and Kokoda as it travels to Sydney, Brisbane and other ports within the Asia/pacific region. Expected release date of the aircraft is mid-2012, and is subject to final board approvals…but for now, here is the artist’s impression of Air Niugini’s Boeing 737." http://www.empireworldwide.com/kokoda70/img.png |
Nah.. no rumour.. I just got hit with a Rishworth(less) mass email saying they're looking for NG crew...
Total Monthly Payment (Gross, see note below): B737NG Captain: AU$14,483 B737NG First Officer: AU$10,637 Overtime: The overtime threshold is 65 hours per month. B737NG Captain: AU$275 per hour B737NG First Officer: AU$185 per hour 12 Month contract, renewable.. Brisbane base... yes it will appeal to many... :ok: Though I don't see many from the other big Brisbane NG operator jumping ship... :E |
Oh.. and the note it says when it says note below..
basically it says your a contractor.. sort your own bloody tax out.. :) |
Ah.... $173,796 doesn't initally sound too bad. BUT there is no superannuation and any salary sacrificed salary will not be subject to reduced tax because your 'employer' is not an Australian company . So the real package is closer to about $155-160 if it were advertised as an Australian job. Last 737 Pixie operated didn't work very well but times have changed hopefully. I can't imagine any domestic ops unless they run it to Nadzab but not sure if the PCN will allow it, so most likely east coast Australia and possibly Jakarta?
|
The last 737 that operated with PX was on charter from TEA in Switzerland.
Talk among the PX pilots at the dero was that this 737 could operate out of more than just Manus, Nadzab and POM but the TEA pilots were not happy about the numbers. I'm not a pilot but I did imbibe and listen at the dero!! |
Any info out there if this contract will last longer than the year it states? Renewable is good but is the NG going to be a long term plan or short term. Interested?
|
Yep, any info appreciated. I have it from reliable source that the 73 is on.

Been in the works for quite a while, plan is 2. 1 -700, 1 -800 - which is kinda dumb - but it is Air Niugini we are talking about.
700 was due around July but think that's pushed back. 2 x NGs replacing 1 of the 767s. Obviously Brissy flights plus Honiara/Nadi. Lots of other routes bandied about down the Aeroclub, not planning any domestic ops. I did think it was going to be crewed from inside, but I guess due to the shortage on all fleets they'll get some guys in. |
would think thats why they got 1 year contracts locals will take over in due time f/os especially..
|
Even 25 years ago Manus didn't need a 110 seat aircraft, much as it doesn't need a 150 seater now. Back in the TEA days I suspect they were asked to look at Goroka, Hagen, Madang and Rabaul. Madang was short back then for a -200, prohibitve for a -700. Rabaul is gone and Tokua is dirt (they don't make a gravel kit for NGs) And I can just see the Swiss eyes roll when asking the question " What is the go around at Goroka". Hagen- can't see any real objection back then other than it didn't have any IFR approach. Despite the Swiss living amongst mountains they didn't like the PNG mountains. I remember a series of technical problems (real or imagined) plauged the aircraft and it only lasted a few short weeks.
Nadzab with contract crews? Big issues there and PX best avoid that. Having said that I think it is long overdue that they operate a 150-180 seater. Maybe after deciding not to buy MBA they saw the marketshare they have lost on the BNE-POM route and had to compete with like equipment. |
Nice paint job, will it be operating to Narita?
Perhaps the Japs have their version of Kokoda on the otherside. |
I know it is based in BNE but is there any mention of hotac being provided in PNG (as is the case with FJ)?
|
Recruitment on hold apparently.
|
Any knowledge why it's on hold? Thanks in advance..:ooh:
|
Recruitment on hold awaiting further information from Air Niugini, my chum tells me. I don't know what it means but perhaps the agent is inundated with candidates or perhaps they have already chosen the initial batch.
|
Why would PX hire from outside?
Thought they would have enough suitably qualified guys already. Or at least easy converts from F100s. |
Eh, how is transferring from the F-100 to the 737 easy?
Completely different aircraft. Everything from centerline thrust to underwing thrust. Dark cockpit, Airbus type FMS Vs old switches,Boeing FMS. Speed brake that works compared to one that doesn't. F-100 is a racecar(F-70 even more so),whereas the 737 is a Tractor! To those making the switch, you are only as good as your next landing in the 737! Good Luck! |
