Jetstar A330's come home

Word on the street is jetstars a330 will be coming home to oz as they cannot get them onto to the 9v rego.

And these idiots want to start another airline!!

Capt Kremin 11th Apr 2012 21:10

Coming home would mean coming back to Qantas for most of them..., but if what you say is true then it has big ramifications for the 787 as well.

I know nothing of the background to this, however SQ have A330's registered in Singapore (albeit -300's).

I'm sure if Jetstar wanted to register these machines in Singapore it could be accomplished without too much fuss.

Ollie Onion 11th Apr 2012 21:53

I have heard that the 9V registration was turned down on the basis of inadequate crew rest. Apparently Singapore requires the provision of crew bunks, Jetstar A330s don't have them, simple as that.

Capt Kremin 11th Apr 2012 22:13

The 787's haven't been ordered with a crew rest either.

Fatguyinalittlecoat 11th Apr 2012 23:02

Purely out of curiosity, how many are up there?

The Green Goblin 11th Apr 2012 23:05

It was more to do with flight crew Licencing.

Jet-A-One 12th Apr 2012 04:01

9V rego requires P/N S/N for all repairable parts fitted to the aircraft. It also requires replaced parts to have a different serviceable label to that of VH registered aircraft. It has been massively underestimated how much work was involved in this process and if it is even possible.

Capt Kremin 12th Apr 2012 04:03

.... The great unravelling continues....

blacksmoke 12th Apr 2012 04:23

It had nothing to do with crew licences etc. Just spent a layover with a few involved with the process from JQ, and it was the fact they were going to have to do it all again for another new type to the AOC (787) in just over 12 months, so it made zero sense in spending the money, or time involved to get the 330's onto the JQasia AOC in the meantime. It also means they have alot more flexibility with regards to crewing for another year or so as well.
I believe the costs involved were alot higher than originally expected, and they had a few issues to sort out re the Qf maintenance system in place.

pigdriver 12th Apr 2012 04:29

I think theres 4 330's up there??? I bet the JQAsia 320 guys that were promised the 330 gig will be alittle annoyed???
Sounds like more brilliant planning from the blueshirts running the outfit....

Jet Man 12th Apr 2012 05:54

What will happen to the flight crew up there?

DrPepz 12th Apr 2012 06:41

What's the benefit of registering them onto 9V, instead of using the current VH registration?

kellykelpie 12th Apr 2012 07:38

Flight crew don't need to hold an Oz license

Toruk Macto 12th Apr 2012 09:05

The costs were alot higher ! There were a few issues to sort out!

I never saw that coming !

I heard it was because mgmt finally gave in and said that these should be moved over to QF international to supplement the highly profitable international division.

zlin77 12th Apr 2012 10:20

Funny how The Singaporeans change the requirements to suit...when Ansett received the 2 x 747-300's and later the 747-400 they were absolute crap..

Mstr Caution 12th Apr 2012 13:53

Where has that info come from? Just curious.

Offchocks 12th Apr 2012 21:34

Mstr Caution

I remember the story back when the aircraft were ordered, AJ apparently had a say on the specifications and did not want crew rest seats. Some of us at the "other" airline were surprised as a couple of our initial A330s had no crew rest and were not as flexible for operational use because of it.

apache 13th Apr 2012 05:37

So....Tiger gets grounded in oz, costs them millions!!! And then suddenly qf group has troubles in Singapore costing them ,potentially, millions.......

Hhmmmmm
