RNP AR now up and running at NZAA since Thursday. When sequence and capability line up, it's in for the short approach!
You don't need RNP-AR to construct/fly a Visual STAR to a reasonable final position (ie 4nm final). Any join-the-dots RNAV/GPS box will do it easily

The lowest the RNAV VIS STAR gets us to 2000ft now, and that is already in place at NZAA. The RNP AR approaches offer something new, i.e. the capability to fly the short track miles to touch down in IMC.

The RNAV VIS STAR cannot offer the short track mile soluton in conditions where the cloud base is below 2000ft.

Why do people in this forum see any advance in capability as a set back??

Embrace the future guys!

Have flown the RNAV RNP AR Y approach about ten times now and is certainly the way to go. I love it! Very smooth and can handle a lot of tail wind!
