Methinks they would be better off attending to their own back yard ... before attempting to spoil the neighbor's BBQ ! !

They have shown NO capacity to look after their own backyard, in fact don't they want to burn it to the ground?

You know they are getting desperate when they whinge to the referee because there was one time when they were so strong it didn't matter but now...... they are getting what they deserve with the way they treat staff, customers and the investing public.

This is slightly off topic. But is it true that Virgin Australia operates a 777 from Abu Dhabi to Kuala Lumpur daily on behalf of Etihad?

T VASI I believe Virgin were trying not to be the biggest airline in Oz but the airline of choice in Australia. But with some foreign capital it could easily be both!:D

The 110 A320s never were in addition to the status quo. Jetstar is a LCC and recycles their fleet before the costs of maintaining it catch up with them.

The A320s are replacements with a marginal capacity growth.

i also heard a rumour that Virgin Australia is planning to fly to Singapore and Taiwan by the end of this year.

That will be a code share flight operated by SIA aircraft not VA metal.

It seems the restructure has got the go-ahead. Shares up in early trading...

The federal government has rebuffed Qantas’s demands for a ‘‘comprehensive public review’’ of Virgin Australia’s sweeping plans to lift the shackles off a foreign ownership cap on its domestic operations.

Qantas last week called on federal aviation authorities to scrutinise Virgin’s corporate split because it believed its rival’s international operations might end up running foul of the Air Navigation Act, which requires foreign ownership to be capped at 49 per cent.

But in a submission released today, the Department of Infrastructure and Transport has bluntly rejected Qantas’s demands and made clear it believes Virgin’s plans comply with the rules needed for it to retain rights to fly overseas routes as a designated Australian airline.

‘‘We do not believe Qantas’s suggestion of the need for a public inquiry is either necessary or appropriate in the context of this application [by Virgin],’’ the department said.

Pehaps the Qantas’s general counsel, is not as smart as the Virgin general counsel :O

So when can we expect Etihad to inject a bunch of cash to stem the emirates tidel wave?

A few more 777's flying to some new destinations would be nice.
