Have any applicants with zero actual flying experience been accepted in prior years? Eg Is it a true ab-initio program?
Yes, at least in the lot doing their CPLs now...

Ben_093 is on the money from what I was told by someone who got into the cadetship. Not everyone that got in was a virgin aus employee but there was more than 1 virgin aus employee that got in and a at least 1 who had been working at another airline put it that way.

Reading through some of the posts regarding last years intake it seems a few people weren't surprised at the fact that the whole recruitment process wasn't very transparent. But there were others suggesting that this first intake was very much a "trial" to see how this cadetship would pan out.

Maybe they have drawn their conclusions from their first intake and we might see changes in numbers and maybe the overall trend in the candidates backgrounds etc. Any rumours regarding intake numbers?

From earlier posts in this thread, it seems at least one cadet last year already had significant experience, having completed other cadetships (multiple?). The recruitment page for this year states limited experience up to PPL and minimal flying hours.

Any thoughts on the change?
I got to the final round last year and almost all of the candidates had flying hours.

I know for sure that three of the 2012 cadets had flying experience. The one with the least amount of flying hours was going for his first solo that weekend.

I don't think anybody in last year's selection had zero flying experience. Most of the candidates that I conversed with on the assessment day had flying hours.

Those with logbooks had to submit their records to an assessor upon entering the assessment room. Only three applicants did not submit a logbook. One of these were myself, with another being and a young man who had zero flying hours (and no aviation knowledge whatsoever!). I can only presume the third candidate didn't have any flying hours.

I know one Cadet. Very happy with the gig. He reckons he would recomend the place to any newbies looking to progress in a tough environment.

Currently have 95 hrs and a PPL. Completing CPL. How do these hours compare with 'minimal hours'?

Thoughts?

Application review Unsuccessful

Ambiguous "Current Status"... does anyone know if this means they haven't reviewed, or they have deemed my application unsuccessful?

If you were deemed unsuccessful, then it would be likely that they would send out a rejection email like they have already done for some applicants.

Does your current status say "application under review"?

murch21 30th Jul 2013 00:20

The application status just says "Application review Unsuccessful"... no email yet, might just keep an eye on the letter box. I do have ~180 flight hours, so i was half expecting to be over experienced...

sdvetha 30th Jul 2013 01:06

maybe its that they haven't reviewed it yet? cause i'm sure if some have already recieved a rejection email you would have got one already! aha stills there hope yet

murch21 30th Jul 2013 01:36

Haha, I'll just assume I'm rejected for now and be glad when I'm not

nt.pilot 30th Jul 2013 03:27

i applied last year and was rejected, it just said status - "unsuccessful"... i applied again this year.. last year it took about 2 - 3 weeks for my rejection letter to come through.

How accurate is the PATS website in saying HECS debt of $75K plus company loan of $40K which you are required to pay back from year 1 - meaning first year of training or work.

So incur a debt of $115K - that is just for the FTA part ? What about aircraft endorsements etc , more $$ you have to pay or bond ?

But paid a "training" wage of around $50K whilst at FTA, so clear say $42K whilst at FTA.

The website is contradictory in that it states no contribution expected from student during training , company funds the part up to pre PPL , but clearly a debt is incurred ??

$115K sounds about right for the FTA program ??

company funds the part up to pre PP
Pre PPL? Soo essentially nothing? You pay for your training and in turn the company pays you very little. This is why every pilot hates cadets. Just under cutting everyone elses terms and conditions..

Hey Murch21

I am in the same position as you..no rejection letter yet but status says unsuccessful.....where to from now? maybe back to GA.

dafydd_lewis 31st Jul 2013 23:53

Hey Murch21 and fly1975,

When did you apply? I applied on the 23rd of July and my current status doesnt say anything except "update, withdraw, view" etc.

Reda07 1st Aug 2013 03:05

Hey question, I apologise for my ignorance but what does GA stand for?

I'm a newbie to this forum =)
