np330, particularly into ML where you're generally dropping out of a tailwind as well, 17kts ain't the half of it :}

Go for it! Half the time we're overoptimistic & have to crank up the internationals anyway. "Oh god, XXXX has died in the @rse, max 'im up & track 'im direct".

"XXXX indicate maximum speed for descent" followed some time later by the creeping realisation that XXXX ain't doing so well.

"Report indicated airspeed" "280kts" :eek:

"Can you increase to 300kts?" "Affirm" :*

Mate I can do .84 into 320 direct Arbey anytime you want with high speed below 10 as well :ok:

Wow, you the man.....

le Pingouin 10th Aug 2011 15:28

You only have to ask daaaahling! The rest of the time we just know you're going to be low & slow as per usual company profile :E

nitpicker330 11th Aug 2011 00:10

Huh?
300 kt descent, reduce to 250 kts by MSA or 3000' Same or indeed better than QF.
The profile is lower because of the Airbus software programming ( RR Engines ) and A330 wing characteristics, nothing to do with CX "company profile"

I dare say you don't have a problem with the 744F into Mel?

Rule #1 of Flow from days gone by, still appropriate, often forgotten,

Only make the Rat #1 if he's #1 to another Rat

Just having a bit of a gentle poke np. By "company profile" I mean however you guys normally seem to fly. CX certainly seems to have a shallower climb profile than most. Freighters are a different matter....

P.S. "Slow" is a relative term. You're slow because you're lower, not because your IAS is low. Unless you're in trail with another aircraft all I care about is ground speed as that'll usually tell me who wins.

nitpicker330 11th Aug 2011 13:28

Fair enough :ok:

As you probably know we use Derate Climb thrust on all fleets. A 5% to 15% reduction depending on weight to save Engine life. In my experience a lot of other Asian Carriers don't do this. EVA is one company that always out climb us between HKG and TPE easily.

le Pingouin 11th Aug 2011 13:58

I'd presumed reduced power was the reason - casual observation suggests CX'd be out climbed by most other A330s. The main reason I notice is that tracking to Broken Hill you cross BN-AD traffic & you're about the only ones who aren't maintaining well before the crossing. I sometimes actually have to pay attention! :}

Thats interseting, we (Asian mob) used to do that until a year ago. Now we derate the takeoff but climb power is manually selected higher to save fuel.
