Merged: Are QANTAS pilots asking the wrong question?

Sick of being played around with for the last 10+ years, should we (AIPA) indeed be rather trying to stimulate demand. Alan Joyce and co have been doing their level best to get us off-side so perhaps it's time to take the hint.
As a group, now suitably disengaged, we could approach Singapore or a Middle East operator and offer our services at a negotiated rate.
Could effectively shut down QANTAS overnight and stimulate demand for the new entrant, greenfields Chinese operation may even be the go.
Shame about QANTAS but it seems that's the way it's heading according to Joyce and live export is a bit contentious ATM anywy.

Proper deal I'm sure we could get the right engineers and associated staff to come along!

Mud Skipper 28th Jun 2011 07:56

Anyone a good artist, thinking kangaroo's on live export ship heading for Singapore.:}

ALAEA Fed Sec 28th Jun 2011 07:58

Are you suggesting pilots resign en masse?

mcgrath50 28th Jun 2011 08:02

:ugh::ugh:

amos2 28th Jun 2011 08:05

...are you suggesting lame's scab on each other?

hcmcmcclown 28th Jun 2011 08:09

Might surprise you mate but you may find that you aren't that marketable after all....better to stick with the sheltered workshop and see how it pans out. You guys possibly aren't as flexible as you think.....Why do you think the board is directing AJ to do what he is doing?

I dont like it any more than you do but this is life. Why do you think the government let Ansett go down the gurgler to be replaced by Virgin. Nobody likes change but it has to happen.

Cafe Sua Da anyone?

Sonny Hammond 28th Jun 2011 08:19

Clown, nice and apt name btw..

Maybe well qualified pilots aren't that desired in the Australian market right now (absolutely remarkable considering Australia wearing its safety record like a scouts badge), but around the world they would be gobbled up.

Sure the s/o's lack window seat time, but over the next few years the landslide of retirements is going to happen at long last and from the other end the lack of experienced pilots around the world is going to force all real airlines to look hard at how they are going to get their new pilots.

I'm not saying there will be huge payrises etc as there will always be commercial reality but as for 500-1000 odd ex qf guys looking for a job...well I know a couple of middle eastern airlines that would take them all in a flash...maybe even on basings (QR).

So, there you go clown, some facts for you. More constructive than the rubbish you came up with.

Angle of Attack 28th Jun 2011 08:24

Better just to go and get another job elsewhere, there are heaps around asia at the moment, if your willing to leave Oz of course...

Although if that deal could be pulled it would be funny if it happened!

hcmcmcclown 28th Jun 2011 08:29

Well Sonny my young friend, best you be on your way and see what the big wide world has in store for you.

Best of luck to you. The grass is always greener where you water it the most!

Cafe Sua Da anyone?

Angle of Attack 28th Jun 2011 08:35

Whoa who is this clown hcmcmcclown?

sound like a graduate manager probably in QCC, like a deer with no eyes....

I think youll find the majority of Pilots in QF have experienced the big wide world, and had multiple jobs Australia and even world wide prior to gaining entry into Qantas, ... just like you?:E I think not jusdging by your immature posts

Oh yeah it means No idea! :ok:

Sonny Hammond 28th Jun 2011 09:22

Hijacked by a muppet. Leave the thread, just lock him, Mr mcmcmcmcclown.

Sonny Hammond 28th Jun 2011 09:23

And an interesting side note.

I left QF, after I left, CM said it was a good move.

WorthWhat 28th Jun 2011 09:30

Tell me again what you are suggesting Skippy.

Sonny Hammond 28th Jun 2011 09:35

Suggesting nothing, thats for the individual to decide.

Muddy suggested the QF pilots via AIPA collectively look for alternative opportunities.
My comment only adds that CM himself thought leaving wasn't so stupid. Several years ago, let alone today.

If guys are going to leave or be made redundant, why not AIPA act as the go between rather than one of the other contracting agencies?

Its not a bad idea given the circumstances.

BTW, clown, I have left and its working out just fine..:ok:

Massey058 28th Jun 2011 09:41

Hell no I wont go...the union will never let it happen......no unions overseas guys!!!!!
Haha, have you ever been overseas?

GlobalMaster 28th Jun 2011 09:45

Gotta agree that there is nothing in

Are QANTAS pilots asking the wrong question?

Sick of being played around with for the last 10+ years, should we (AIPA) indeed be rather trying to stimulate demand. Alan Joyce and co have been doing their level best to get us off-side so perhaps it's time to take the hint.

That is abusive or derogatory, even if it is a bit muddy.

Would hate to think politically correct censorship is becoming a part of Prune

Mud Skipper 28th Jun 2011 09:50

For what it's worth,

AIPA puts together a collective package for the members to be sold to the most attractive bidder ( note I don't say highest ).... No one has to resign until the entire deal is set up.

Rather than sitting in the slaughter yards waiting to be killed we go back to the market . AJ & GD etc have seriously stalled the careers of hundreds of loyal Qantas pilots , we really should be asking if we could work for someone else but still based in Australia or some kind of deal which would have international bases which include the opportunity of an Oz base.

Tossing up the idea , last time I checked open discussion built strong ones!

Management seem to think this is a game they play but as you get older you realize time is precious. QFs toying with Jetstar has cost many pilots 10 years or more off their careers. We have been treading water on 75% divisors for too long. Time to think how to get it back on track if the PIA can't work.

hcmcmcclown 28th Jun 2011 09:56

Having just had a clip around the ears I shall graciously bow out for the duration...Over to you all.

Oh how I know this feeling?

Cafe Sua Da anyone?

jaded boiler 28th Jun 2011 10:10

Standing by for strangely like-minded input from struggling, gingerbread, London sloop, etc, etc. ;)

WoodenEye 28th Jun 2011 10:18

Personally I am a big fan of keeping skilled Australian jobs in Australia.

That said, am also aware that Expat Contracts have long been attractive to both employers and employees and more than willing to listen to any alternative that provides job security and keeps Qantas up there with the best.

See no reason why AIPA can’t evaluate any such proposal and put a recommendation to its members.

Survival has always been about adaption.
