Alan versus Alan

If you can stomach the diatribe it may be worth a listen.

Looks like AJ has been to Tony Robbins self improvement school......we don't have problems we have challenges:}

hotnhigh 17th May 2011 02:38

Thanks fed sec for the link.
Raises more questions for AJ. Firstly, the legality of cadets with less than 500hrs operating NZ registered aircraft in NZ. Also why the need to transfer pilots from the original NZ contract back to the Australian contract during the senate inquiry?
Does BA have separate entities for their cadet programs? And do these entities have separate pay structures to their parent company?
The use of the words " not our intention" should ring major alarm bells to all.
Just ask any mainline pilots recollection of those words used by Geoff Dixon when asked about Jetstars initial start up plans.

Mstr Caution 17th May 2011 02:57

AJ - The real "departure from reality", was your statement to the Senate Inquiry that a $50 domestic fare from Melbourne to North Queensland is sustainable.

Furthermore:

Video - Jetstar CEO defends pilot's sacking - The Age

David Hall stated: "the reality is that salaries between Australia & Singapore are comparable" & now we have Joyce stating otherwise.

Interview between Richard Quest and Air NZs Rob Fyfe about the price of oil going up.

ROB FYFE, CEO, AIR NEW ZEALAND: I'd actually be happy with fuel at $150. I'd be happy with fuel at $200. We are actually an incredibly robust airline. We've got a very strong balance sheet. There's a lot of airlines out there that struggle to economically survive. They get by by the skin of their teeth. To be honest, if high fuel started to claim some of the struggling airlines out of the industry --

QUEST: Oh!

FYFE: -- it wouldn't concern me at all.

QUEST: Oh! Oh! That's a polite -- you just want -- you want nutcracker the competition!

FYFE: Well, the reality is, the strong should get stronger, and those that aren't strong enough should, actually, fall by the wayside.

Air NZ has managed to put some cash aside for fuel to rise (sound strategy if you ask me). Alan just seems to wait until fuel goes up so he can use it as a tool to screw his workers.

POOR STRATEGY MANAGEMENT ALAN. SHAME.

There is no doubt that Alan is intellectually above average, however intellectual capability does not automatically translate to management capability, or more importantly (sadly) in his case, leadership capability.

Transparent, truthful and trusted are the three “Ts” that senior management teams should want the market to associate with themselves, their company and their communications.

When you, or your team, tells ’porkies’, you will trip up. Even when you are talking to yourself!!

- "all engineers want immediate access to Qantas Club"; and
- "all engineers get 6 weeks annual leave".

Is that true? Is that what you asked for?

stubby jumbo 17th May 2011 11:58

This "diatribe" is :yuk:

The biggest joke of all was the editorial read by AJon at the beginning.... written by Ms Wirth.

Then later AJon says to AJoy "you've got a real problem"........SILENCE......AJoy thought he was still referring to the PSA conversation !!!!!

GOLD:D

I understand it was asked that the engineers be allowed to pay up & join the club like every other citizen who wishes to.I understand staff cannot use it at all.(unless you are in the top rung of execs I guess).
It is not high on my list but what the hell.

The 6 weeks leave is I understand for permanent shift workers.Currently 5 weeks.Having worked permanent shift for decades I would cherish the extra time with the kids.
Not high on my list but if pay rises cannot be extracted better conditions maybe sought.
Put it this way, if you do not ask, you will never, ever get it.
Regardless of the above 'nice to haves' the job security issues need to be put on the table.

Dunnocks 17th May 2011 12:50

6 weeks leave

Can't understand the point of this...
We can't get leave when we want to now, only when a 'leave burn' is called for..
An extra weeks leave will only lead to more frustration and bitterness.

Why is Qantas always crying poor

Is it just me or does it seem that every time that Alan Joyce he always seem to be having a whinge that Qantas is competing against Asian/NZ/ Arab airlines with lower cost/ fuel benefits or government subsidized?

Crying poor all the time, doesn't bode well with customers or the employment staff. Its time to not focus so much on cutting cost and demoralizing the labour forces but also to perhaps re-invent/ re-invest in the product. And yes whilst Qantas may have been caught out by the delays of the wonder jet. Customers don't give a sweet F.A when the find themselves boarding aging 747/767.
Skytrax reviews sure do make telling reading.

Alan I fixed it for you?
'If management keep putting their heads in the sand the airline will not survive' and the unions as well (just to be fair)

I guess it is all depends on whether the current economic situation is as dire as AJoy makes out. If so when will it approve.

On another note, I don't have any issue against Jetconnect, I think it performs well in its described role, but to have an airplane emblazoned in 'Spirit Of Australia' and yet be crewed and based in a country other than Australia is a deceptive if bet. Whats more surprising is the way mainstream media just gloss over the issue that people, who perhaps have forked out a bit more to cross the Tasman sea with Qantas, are supporting foreign jobs. Today tonight and A Current Affair must be too busy discovering which facial cream best restores youth:ugh::ugh:

If you can stomach the diatribe

Should have heeded the warning SP, chose to listen over breakfast now feeling ill, thought Jonesy was a bit smarter than that.:ugh:

Wouldn't want to upset the sponsors now would we.

walaper 18th May 2011 00:07

Job security how outrageous:ugh:

Short_Circuit 18th May 2011 01:26

When this is all over I know 35,000 people & their families who will bar 2GB in the mornings.. because of AJon. :E

Budfox 18th May 2011 01:34

And why would Mr Jones care anyway he already has his commercial
agreements in place. I mean after all hes already been found guilty during the cash for comments debacle involving Qantas back handing him $ for favorable press :yuk:
Mr Jones you of all people should be the last to be commenting on any matter relating to Qantas.
Credibility = 0

assasin8 18th May 2011 02:26

With all the spin coming from the company, you could be forgiven for thinking there was an election coming... :ugh:

Cessna Jockey 18th May 2011 07:16

I think while they were down there removing Joycey's prostate they mixed up some of his plumbing? He appears to be talking total sh*t :yuk:

walaper 18th May 2011 09:16

Nice of AJ to compare the cadet salary to the average citizen. I would suggest being a transport category pilot a little above average .Further would suggest his salary is well above the average CEO.:ugh:

Management In Charge 18th May 2011 09:45

Management is in charge

Management does not have the type of emotive outbursts as have been displayed by front line staff.
Management has considered your ramblings, complaints and general childish behavior and respond with the follow statement:

We do not care that you perform shift work, it is part of your work structure and you have accepted those terms. You’re crying about working shifts and missing out on family is in effect a vernacular. You choose to pursue a life of wealth and then have the audacity to criticize management for your choices, how sad.
You are paid handsomely, above the universal average. You receive generous entitlements, indulge in large amounts of downtime, excessive sick leave and have an abundance of annual leave to satisfy your needs.
You have opted to miss out on time with family in your pursuit of working for the world’s number 1 airline at your own volition. This is your own desire, you make the choices, and you must live up to your own decisions and accept any consequences. You must live up to your end of the deal, as management has willingly done.
We allow you to receive perks, conditions, entitlements and a sense of fair play that goes above and beyond our call of duty. These are the reasons we are the employer of choice, these are the reasons that you frontline people have no justified cause for complaint, these are the reasons that your outrageous claims for extravagant payrises shall be met with the same contempt that those claims are being made.
