Qantas freight jet burns fuel over Wollongong before emergency landing
BEVAN SHIELDS 13 May, 2011 07:00 PM A stricken freight plane that had been circling above Wollongong has made an emergency landing at Sydney Airport. Airservices Australia confirmed the international Atlas Air flight experienced a problem with its landing indicator after taking off from the airport earlier today. The landing gear failed to retract. The plane, operated by Qantas, flew very low over Wollongong for an hour as it burned fuel. It landed safely at Sydney Airport around 7pm.Fire services had been deployed to the runway. |

Don't be too quick to condemn. Having experienced this once and having to pull the plug on 100,000 lbs of fuel, returned to find it was mechanical, not human.
