Anyone heard this one?!

Strong rumours that it will kick off in Sept 2011 via AKL.

On the Airbus380...?

The US is one of the biggest money earners for QF.

If J* was to fly to SFO either via AKL or direct with another aircraft it would have a detrimental effect on the bottom line of QF.

The money saved would easily pay for a cheap ticket from SFO to LAX or anywhere else in the US.

This might be another rumour but if J* is to be utilised to it's best potential it should be used on flights that complement the QF network and not compete with it.

They have already done it with hawaii and Japan, why not take some more cream off the top and cry they are losing international market share :ugh:

They have advertised for 36 commands and need 261 pilots on the next 9 months so I wouldn't be surprised if this rumor was true. Just look at the slow march into Queenstown by Jetstar. As soon as they get their RNP 0.1 I reckon all the Tasman flying to queenstown will FO to Jetstar. That's another very profitable route they have set up in direct competition to their own business. Go figure.

This will happen, just look at what has been going on:

A330 based in SIN and it is said that J* wants to branch out from there,

A330 positions advertised for an AKL basing for a rolling 12 month contract,

Qantas looking to pull out of SFO due to the fact that there 'isn't enough of a business market and it is more a leisure route'

Rumour from a good 12 months ago that SIN - AKL - SFO - JFK and SIN - FCO or SIN - ATH were routes that would be launched in anticipation of the 787 coming on line, that has been delayed as have these routes, but I would expect that they will start being talked about again once the 787 dates firm up.

QF aren't looking to pull out of SFO. They are on 7th May.

Well there you go then, Joyce said that J* would no long be put in direct competition on routes that QF was already flying, so maybe the new strategy is to pull out of 'non-profitable' routes and then amazingly J* will step in a few months later to try and build new business.

As much chance of this happening as there is for a Qantas Mainline pilot to fly the 787 out of Sydney on legacy conditions.

or any Australian based Jetstar pilot flying the B787.

For those who don't already know, senior QF group management are developing plans to have all QF Group B787's flown by crews based in SIN and AKL - this includes the B787-8's that will eventually replace the B767's on Oz domestic routes. The QF mainline & Oz based Jetstar pilots need to be united to fight management to Secure Our Flying and thus have career progression.

Apologies for thread drift - I heard that J* would be flying to SFO as an extension of their HNL services.

I remember reading something somewhere that stated J* do not have and cannot get rights to fly from HNL to the mainland due to the volume of traffic already doing it.

Probably the U.S government trying to protect Hawaiian Airlines, maybe they value local employment, good to see.

QF is stuffed, nobody can stop it, shame.
