Murmurings from the Bonus Shed

1) The vultures are circling Joyce and waiting to pick at the carcass.

2) The Head of People (Engagement Surveys) is telling one and all that the pilots won't take action as they don't trust the union. I think he misheard union for company.

3) The CP appears to be making up numbers to suit whatever audience he is addressing at the time.

4) The term "re-skinning" has been bouncing around. The great Asian strategy may involve simply painting JQ aeroplanes in QF colours. No wonder the job security clause is getting up their goat.

blow.n.gasket 23rd Feb 2011 06:01

Latest rumour is that the present Chief Pilot is seriously considering throwing the towel in.
Continuation of the rats leaving the sinking ship?

Who's next for the position?
Wouldn't be the young turk on the safety video, would it?

The Head of People (Engagement Surveys) is telling one and all that the pilots won't take action as they don't trust the union.
This line of reasoning is TEN YEARS too late. Ten years ago perhaps not now. The pilots perceive that there is nothing to lose. They have seen any change of promotion disappear, not even the ability to take opportunities at j*. I cannot express the anger & hostility that these pilots feel, they will fight, they are not going to skulk away & waste the last 10 years of waiting & hoping that management would come to their senses.

If management think they have demoralized the pilots, nothing could be further from the truth, they are disengaged from the company, but resolute in fighting managements vindictive, corrosive & destructive "human resources" policies that have been targeted at maineline pilots. The pilot group are not suffering Stockholm syndrome, they do not identify with the company as their Saviour & protector. Anyone thinking this clearly has no view into the mind of a mainline pilot.

The pilots made strategic blunders in that year, it would appear that managers are now doing the same. Back people into a corner, and eventually they will fight, and fight hard. Your roll of the dice.

Qantas 787 23rd Feb 2011 06:40

The Head of People - who is he again? And what has he done? He is earning big bucks and doesn't seem to be doing much. His contribution to the roadshows says it all..........

ROH111 23rd Feb 2011 07:01

Did AJ really leave early from the roadshow in Melbournetown?

If so, what the f@ck?

Stalins ugly Brother 23rd Feb 2011 07:22

Rumour has it,

There is a big split within the Qantas heirachy, CP is being isolated and will be used as the scape goat for any failings in regard to the pilot EBA, and he knows it and is not happy.
Pilot unity has rattled AJ and friends and factions within QF headquarters are being formed that are plotting his demise if (when) all comes unstuck.

LS is trying to sit on the fence but it is known within that his support for AJ has diminished considerably and the board at this point are supporting AJ but a few have expressed there doubts on his ability privately.

BB has approached the board on the quiet to express his interest in being Group CEO.

Stay tuned.

balance 23rd Feb 2011 07:58

Jeeeeeez. BB as group CEO? Out of the fryingpan into the fire. That bloke would look terrific in a rifle sight.

rodchucker 23rd Feb 2011 09:18

Well did AJ leave Melbourne early or not? could say it all if it is true.

Nothing like a good falling out amongst the troops to lower the bar.

Now all we need are some whistleblowers to feed Four Corners and it could really get interesting provided they tackle the Exec and Board rather than the spin doctors

Mr. Hat 23rd Feb 2011 09:49

Jeez I can taste the aggression in this thread..!

God I wouldn't be in his shoes for all the money in the world.

All he'd be thinking on his days off is: "Which Jetstar EFFO or QF Captain am I going to run into today".

Funnily enough if a VB pilots ran into JB on the weekend they'd be falling over themselves to shake his hand. At this point in time he enjoys near celebrity status at VB. Having said that the EBA hasn't started so it might be early days yet!

captwawa 23rd Feb 2011 11:00

Yeah wait for the EBA talks to really get rolling, then all the new uniforms and Elle MacPhersons in the world won't do him any credit at all.

What was so wrong with the brown pants anyway??? Beside us looking like cabin crew, they were fine!

Now we will look like old Impulse pilots.

I don't think it's just virgin pilots who would do that Mr. Hat!

It's great to see that management has disunity, if only they had a public forum to show it on so we could confirm the rumours. Anyone want to start PMRuNe

Keg 23rd Feb 2011 11:37

Wouldn't be the young turk on the safety video, would it?
Remember, your role is to make money for Flight Ops, oops, I mean your safety is our priority! :ok:

If half the stories told are true then AJ will be glad to have him.

Mr. Hat 23rd Feb 2011 19:59

Ah classic captwawa. I suspect as much. There is a silly part of me that hopes he might try to break the "us and them" tradition and offer a compromise. Given VA talks I suspect this wont be the case!

Anyway back to QF...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA hah ha h hah ha hAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA ahhah ahahha ha a a haaa h AHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH.

He doesn't have the brains for the job he is currently in - instead preferring to wield a big stick.

What The :

The Head of People (Engagement Surveys) is telling one and all that the pilots won't take action as they don't trust the union.
Obviously he was not at the AIPA meetings.

I think that you would struggle to find more than a handful of F/Os and S/Os who would not lay their nuts (or breasts, ladies) on the line for this one. There is nothing to lose this time - our careers are already endangered!

Remember - This "poker game" is the way the the company want negotiations to be conducted nowadays. If you think that this will be a one off and once we have stood up for ourselves, the company will leave us alone - YOU ARE WRONG!

Whilst we have this current line up in management we will have to push for every single cent we retain, every time we sit down at the table! Their role is to push us as far as they can in order to save every last cent, and in the "poker game" book of negotiations our role is to resist that until - BINGO - we suddenly reach a compromise (and this WILL happen - it is just a matter of time and possibly some pressure from both sides).

Don't feel bad about it! As Geoff Dixon himself said "It's just business".

It is sad that this is the way that business has to be conducted, but it is reality now.

IT IS OUR RIGHT TO FIGHT FOR OUR CONDITIONS! And remember Protected Industrial Action is just that - PROTECTED.

Transition Layer 23rd Feb 2011 22:25

So who is the bloke on the Safety Video then? (Initials only)

Mud Skipper 23rd Feb 2011 23:46

At what stage will these numbnuts actually get on and run the airline though?

All the effort put into splitting up the group and causing friction has only helped the HR consultants justify their worthless job. Time to pi$$ them and their antagonistic, wasteful attitudes off and put some effort into what we should be about which is providing what the customers want and turning a profit.

The LCC has been a one star disaster and caused inefficiencies across the rest of the group which far outweigh any possible gains. Other operators have identified these issues but not our management, no they are much smarter than everyone else, just ask them they’ll tell you.

I sure do hope PW gets out of the CP position so that he may have some ability to return to the line otherwise he’ll be looking for a new job after all this is done.
The last CP didn’t not return to the line for good reason.

Industrial action is now inevitable as we the pilot body have been pushed into a tight corner with no escape but to fight. This will be another waste of energy we’d all rather spend building Qantas but sadly we are being excluded from that by the way the board is letting management run us into the ground, for God sake when will the king (Queen) be told he/she has no cloths on.

Tankengine 24th Feb 2011 02:33

Last time I saw a safety video it was John Travolta!:confused:

Ushuaia 24th Feb 2011 02:33

Somebody mumbled to me the other day that PW is not even maintaining line currency anymore. That he cannot be doing any flying AND doing "the job" "properly", whatever each of the terms inside the "" means. Anyone else heard that? Not good if true. I haven't got the desire to ring and ask him directly, sadly. :(

Oh, but they are.

Right into the ground. :yuk:

Capt Kremin 24th Feb 2011 04:28

PW hasn't flown for about three years.
