Qf in a business deal with the Chinese, WTF!!
 
I'm with you Sunfish on this subject and I pretty much agree with the title of this thread and the general theme of it.

But it beggars belief, that they're (QF) now thinking of going into business with a Chinese carrier.

The road to business success in partnership with the Chinese is littered with wreckage of many, many otherwise good foreign businesses. Rule no. 1 when doing business in Asia, is that they must come out on top at ANY expense to the foreign partner/entity. It will start all very nice of course, but eventually they will suck the heart, soul and life out of you.

Look at what happened to the 2 QF exec's who ran foul of the Vietnamese govt. They were simply a pair of schmucks, who made a poor decision and money was lost. Nothing under-handed took place but sh1t can happen when you punch above your division.

It takes a very unique, knowledgable and disciplined skill-set for any foreign entity to make it work in China and I agree with the general tone of previous comments on this and other threads that the QF Board & Management don't have the ticker to run the business as it is, but to consider a partnership/alliance with the Chinese as a panacea for it's woes, is pure madness.

You'd have more chance of business success with the Taliban.

Gordon Bethune talks about the fact that it's no use having the best catering on board if the rest of it (on time, reliable, good service from check in to baggage handling) isn't up to speed. I thought of that particular chapter the moment I read about the QF wine 'award'. :ugh:

I am by nature a conservative person.Not a radical by any definition of the word.....but....
It is time for all Qantas employees to say....enough is enough.How that is to be done I'm not sure.However a good place to start would a meeting of all union heads and from that, a meeting with Joyce and Clifford.Proceed from there depending on the response.It has been said before in other forums and for other reasons...but....Ladies and Gentlemen of Qantas "it is time"

Actually 'next'...... is the CEO slagging off that International is a millstone but what he won't say is that the loss of performance capacity for QF International is deliberate and self imposed.

Check out this pattern just emailed to me by a CC friend and then tell me that the problem is the employees' making. If this is the future I think I might start looking for a seat on the other side of the door!

Interesting Pattern
 
LHR based A380 Crew operates two sectors on what looks like a 14 day trip.
Sydney to Singapore
Singapore to Melbourne.
Looks like a famil trip for some reason.
Crew shortages perhaps?
Punch the pattern number into CIS and scroll to the bottom of the pattern and it will provide an explanation .
As was said earlier outrageously inefficient.Look at the lost customer revenue in having 22 crew deadheading over five sectors.Add the allowances and accommodation and its close to $350k

Sounds more like a pattern created due to a shortage of SYD based A380 cabin crew.
Blame the genius/s who decided that a single aircraft type ( A380 ) category of cabin crew was a great idea.

The A380 and its exclusivity was all about marginalizing the QAL CC.Its about being bloody minded and bugger the cost.
This is why mainline is declining.Managment has an agenda....a very expensive agenda to drive down wages and conditions.Its basically predicated on spending a $100 to save $10.Its also about teaching employees a lesson
Looked what happened with the engineers.Look what's happening with pilots.
Its all about bringing employees to heel.So what if it destroys the business?

You should chat to the QF genius who plans the "super-efficient" two pilot maximum hours days on the last day of a pattern, leaving scheduling to pick up the pieces by either cancelling the flight or calling out the standby crew when the flight is delayed 10-15 minutes, and paxing the out-of-hours crew home.

They're still doing it. And scheduling tear their hair out every time the patterns are published. But they are a completely separate department to pattern planning and have no bearing on the attainment of KPIs for another department. Each department couldn't give a rat's (pardon the pun) if their decision costs another department $1 million, as long as they save at least 50 cents (even "notional" ones!) in their own department.

Mate, this company is f**ked. And it is flowing from the top down.

But of course, we pilots, the ones on the receiving end of this bulls**t, are hopelessly inefficient. :rolleyes:

I don't know that there is any instrument on planet earth hard enough to smack sense into Joyce or anyone else in the upper levels of QF management.

Let me give you a couple of other examples of how making each department 'profitable' works in real life.

Talking to the ground engineer from CGK, every time he gets paxed home on duty he has to go Garuda because it's cheaper than QF.
Pros : He now has a nice story to tell his grandkids about how he flew Garuda and lived.
Cons : QF Engineering save a couple of hundred dollars from their budget, QF lose several thousand dollars to Garuda.

Last time I did the Security day, the course content was absolutely woeful. During the coffee break, I got chatting with the facilitator and diplomatically suggested that the course wasn't quite as good as the previous years. She explained that while QF College ran the course, they had to purchase course material from QF Security and this year it was too expensive for their budget. So now, rather than going through practical case studies, they've got a half-arsed presentation where they pass around knives and other weapons which may or may not be found on board an aircraft.
Pros : We all got to go home an hour early, because in that course you can only pass around knives for so long before someone attempts self harm.
Cons : QF pays us 5:30 for a complete waste of time and money.

Quite a while back, the in-laws were travelling on Jetstar back to SYD on an early afternoon flight. Aircraft breaks, flight cancelled, fair enough, sh*t happens. All pax are told they're to be transferred to QF flights, BUT because QF charge JQ less for flights after 8pm they'll have to wait around for 6 hours. They eventually got on the 9.30 flight, even though the mother-in-law (who worked as groundstaff for 30 years) saw that there were a lot of QF flights that departed less than full throughout the afternoon.
Pros : In-laws got to savour the delights of BNE Domestic Terminal for 7 hours.
Cons : 100 odd pax who'll never fly a Qantas Group flight again.

I could go on. Feel free to chime in.

It is perfectly clear that the Board believes that the only thing of value in QF is the brand value. The service QF provides can be delivered by cheap trained monkeys.

QF don't charge JQ less for their disrupted pax on flts after 2000.
It's the same ridiculously cheap fare for every flt regardless of the departure time depending on the city pair. I'm sure it's all just a "book entry" anyway.
