Protected industrial action at Eastern ?
Just heard that the boys and girls will be voting soon on whether or not to take PIA over their EBA negotiations......
What are the issues at play ? About time the QF group realised that if you keep kicking the dog, one day it will bite back !. PS - Dont piss off the pax, you need them onside for the PR war that will ensue ! |

AFAP and AIPA jointly have approval to conduct a ballot on what types of action to take. only members of AFAP or AIPA will be able to take part in PIA.

AFAP and AIPA jointly have approval to conduct a ballot on what types of action to take. There was no joint application. The AFAP launched their application yesterday. AFAIK, AIPA haven't launched an application for a PIA ballot. (Having said that, there are only 2 members of AIPA who aren't also members of the AFAP. :hmm: ) There are around 30 EAA pilots who aren't a member of any union. They will not be able to vote or participate in any PIA that may occur. DIVOSH! |
Anyone in the know like to summarise the issue? Imagine an EBA negotiation standard stall tactic.

Normal, 3% pay rise for lots of offsets.
It is not good enough, almost 5 months of stalling means the company needs a dose of reality, and whats the worse that can happen? It's gonna Happen! Which means Easterns will cave in, pretty obvious really. after that screw them for at least 9%, thats what I say! per annum of course! |
The company knows it is on a good thing, great route network, very cost effective aircraft, no serious competition and a compliant spineless workforce. Why would they offer more than 3%?
Stand up for yourselves, the company is virtually on its knees in terms of crewing, its embroiled in other industrial action(engineers) and has the very real threat of significant pilot numbers walking out to join Skywest/VB on probably better T&C. Each EBA you guys go through the same motions make the same noises and end up taking the same 3% for offsets. Get serious! |
AIPA has their application with the commissioner after the AFAP, and they were approved as well. An email will go around the members on moday seeking a ballot vote.

It is not good enough, almost 5 months of stalling means the company needs a dose of reality I've seen all this before all too often, the company delays and stalls for months, then presents a **** deal. It gets voted down first time because everyone sees it for what it is. Then second time around the company says sign or you'll lose your back pay, which by this stage is usually at least 6 months worth, usually a lot more. And even though it's still the same **** deal, everyone is **** scared of losing their back pay and they all sign. |

We did it at the RFDS SE and it suddenly brought management to the negotiating table. The out come was all good . All the best with it,the AFAP did an excellent job for us. The Dog |
Hey Tank, the Gentlemen have a right to be in a union or not...end of story, and if your union is so great - why is it we always cave in for inferior eba's? This is the first time I can remember going to PIA, lets not let the unions stuff it up, go hard or go home - I will be interested to see the result:ugh:

You can hardly blame the AFAP (or now AIPA as well) for a crap EBA if you are the ones who vote it in. Yes the Gentlemen have right to not be in a union, it is the same right they have to negotiate their own EBA! |
The Union tell the members when they think they have deal worth signing I like how they pull out the "the union just does what the members ask" when yet another crap deal gets presented, but if you start making suggestions they pull out the "you won't get that so we aren't going to ask for it, we are skilled negotiators". I have just experienced PIA with the AFAP and did not experience what you have stated. The AFAP supported our claim and negotiated a deal which I did not think was possible. The problem lies with the rest of the pilot group. You will find that most are fence sitters and are quite happy to accept the extra money they see in their payslip but wont put their neck on the line to achieve this. The Dog |
Lester, you're on the money. Unfortunately the more I see of Eastern, the more of sheltered workshop it appears. I doúbt much will change except for chest beating on here.
