QF engagement surveys on again

here we go again. surveys for cabin crew and some ground staff are on again. i don't know if pilots are also involved (maybe someone could post yea/nay re tech crew). from a cabin crew position rumour has it that ground managers in charge of cabin crew are for the 'high jump' if returns do not better the last survey results. is that why they are called 'the visitors'.
i believe the engagement survey is closing in the next few days so get cracking and have your say.

yep indeed - have your say!

oh..........I don't think there's a question about 'how do you feel about the management increases in staff travel priority as the poor little dears did not get a bonus'....but you can express your displeasure anyway....

............also don't forget there's a lot of negative announcements being held back so as not to taint the survey outcome...

fr' instance.....International CC's are about to be done over with a crew reduction on the 380, (speaking of 380 - 3 class config wil have +65 pax and 4 less CC!)..... Those CC on the part II lower pay scale were also told this week that they won't get a look in on promotions for at least the short and medium term (ie nxt 5 years) due to the "potential" of surplus crew and managers....and upfront we're of course being done over by offshore bases in NZ & SIN and the donation of routes to JQ offshore affliates.

Added to all this everyone is being done over by the deliberate constraining of the very safety management system that the airline built its reputation on by reverting to the JQ ''let's keep it in-house" SMS standard. [note issue with JQ managment mentality not fellow aviators]

well that about sums up my say......guess I'm not engaged yet......:E

AT

RMCD...any spare dash seats? - might need to have a back up plan....

Ground managers have been called the 'visitors 'for many years..meaning that they come and go, but the residents (the crews) always outlast them, and have to tidy up the mess after they leave!

ampclamp 14th Jun 2010 09:55

Anyone with access to a qf intranet terminal can do the survey.takes a few minutes maximum.

lamem 14th Jun 2010 11:03

what engagement

I tried to do the survey honestly without being too negative. The last survey I did was negative and I wanted this one to be less negative. To do it honestly I think it came out just as bad. There has been no reengagement from any of the managers just more of the same.

simsalabim 14th Jun 2010 11:26

I had an open mind about QF senior management however they lost me when they created an "elite" division with the a380. I feel totally disengaged by the "us versus them" mentality that has been created with a seperate low cost flight attendant division .
Whenever a friend/customer asks me about this aircraft I simply shrug my shoulders and say "don't know anything about it -sorry". A better approach in my opinion would have been to showcase the aircraft to ALL crew. Have open days /inspections . Make us ALL feel a part of the new era , feel proud of the new advertising campaign etc.WE dont necessarily have to fly on the thing .Right now I am totally disengaged and have expressed this in the survey.

Normasars 14th Jun 2010 12:12

It's been said before and I will say it again, "there's more to life than QF"

It's very hard to see it from within, and sometimes you can only get a proper perspective when you step away and see it from a different angle.

"How would I know?" I hear you ask? Well I was part of the system for just over 10 years myself.

I decided to make the break @ 5 months ago now, and believe me when I say that I am glad I got out when I did. Sure; there are a couple of things that I miss and always will. But that's life and I was aware of this before I departed. But on the whole, more opportunity has presented itself to me now, and even better that that, I actually feel like I am appreciated and valued at my new job more than I ever was under the QF umbrella. A 30% pay increase is just an added bonus to where I was 5 months ago.

I always thought that things would improve, and deep down really hoped that they would. But they never did, and it was the usual "smoke n mirrors" and chicken little stuff every time the EBA came around. Having to sacrifice things for the CPI "PAYRISE", trade off this; trade off that;give this up; give that up; just in order to get the annual inflation indexed into your salary. What a load of BS.

QF are the masters of pitting one group against the next in order to threaten all and sundry with their positions within the organisation in order to gain "efficiencies for the business". One way traffic when it comes to EBA time people. Actually, they are not even agreements as such. It's a case of "this is the way it will be", like it or lump it!! What part of that is an Agreement?

Anyway, like the last Engagement survey, the results will be buried and kept confidential because the results are a reflection on the myopic management "psyche" that exists in bull**** castle, otherwise known as Coward Street.

To all those folks, good luck with your respective "EBA's", there are so many great people who work at QF and have made it part of their lives, and management rely too much on peoples' good will and endeavour to just "get the job done".

But believe me when I say that there is life after Qantas. It's just a shame that the 38000 odd people that make up this organisation are not appreciated and shown some common courtesy and gratitude for the fantastic job that they do.

last survey the

house (new definition explained in the cabin crew news) was very red which means very much disengaged. i can 't see much improvement in the current one but they sure will spin the numbers. it's boston consulting after all:ugh:

Keg 15th Jun 2010 06:16

This isn't a complete engagement survey. It's a 'pulse check' to see if they're heading in the right direction. It'll be interesting reading the results when they come out. (If they come out! :ok: )

simsalabim

I find your comments quite childish. There are many hundreds of crew that work within the Qantas group that would do anything to be in your position but the company has introduced QCCA, QD etc and will NEVER have that opprotunity. Does that mean whenever someone asks them about the 747,
A330 and A380 they just shrug their shoulders and go and cry like a little girl in the corner? NO they suck it up and promote a product that the company that pays their wages flys.

Their has been no shortage of information on the A380 over the past 4-5 years, clearly you dont read Cabin Crew News, look at the Cabin Crew Website, participate in Crew Voice, read Qantas News, the Friday Flyer, check out the Qantas Intranet page on the A380, look at the Qantas website, watch the television, youtube, facebook and the list goes on. To say the aircraft is not showcased to ALL crew is a lot of crap. Just because you havent had a personal walk around boo hoo join the line im sure their are plenty of tech crew out their that havent had the opportunity to check out the A380 either.

What more do you want the company to do, they have tried to make everyone in the company feel that the A380 is a new and exciting product development in our history and everyone played a part in bringing this aircraft into the fleet (3% EBA pay rise ring bell, thanks for your contribution) there were open days and inspections plus the Avalon Air Show if you wanted to go OH but you wouldnt have been aware of those because you dont read ANY company publication or public media website, I suppose you are going to say you never received the DVD that every employee received about the
A380 that was produced by Channel 7.

You cant change the past you can only contribute to your future and QCCA is here to stay it was voted in by long haul crew and Part 2 conditions for the A380 were there for you to vote on and the majority of long haul crew voted it up. Its a bit late now to start crying over it.

Embrace the future and join the A380 crew maybe you might feel more engaged, you seem to think you are "elite" and you believe A380 crew are "elite" therefore it should be a good fit for you.

standard unit 16th Jun 2010 12:10

I can assure you Galleyhag that simsalabim's comments are an accurate reflection of how most Longhaul cabin crew feel about the A380 or more specifically how CC management have engineered it's introduction.

If you don't like these attitudes you'd be be better placed to make representations to the people responsible for creating them.

CC management. Oh, that is if you understand the relationship between cause and effect.

I assume you're cabin crew? If I may ask, which division and where?

standard unit 16th Jun 2010 12:25

How many or what percentage of the original Longhaul CC [who bought the spin] are coming back from the A380 [their promotion ] at their earliest opportunity?

And why..........?

GalleyHag 16th Jun 2010 12:27

standard unit

Of course that is the view of Long Haul Crew, the same people who voted in EBA 8 and Part 2 conditions for the A380. Your point? Its only Long Haul crew that think there has been some engineering by cabin crew management to conspire against you when in fact it was a choice you made when EBA 8 was voted up.

There is probally quite a few that are returning and for a variety of reasons, money, fatigue, roster stability etc etc.

Tell me this what do long haul crew want from the A380? Do you want to be part of this aircraft? Do you want it to be brought into the bidding cycle for all crew? Im interested if you feel so disengaged by the A380 what will engage you? Im actually quite interested what you think.

standard unit 16th Jun 2010 12:29

Galleyhag, you forgot to answer my [reasonable] question.........

standard unit 16th Jun 2010 12:34

Really, I heard that no one was coming back given that everything is so fabulous over there???

Sorry, must have been misinformed.

standard unit 16th Jun 2010 13:05

I would have thought that it was self evident what long haul crew want from the A380.
By and large, nothing as evidenced by their refusal to go near it.

The disengagement that the vast majority of intentional crew feel towards it is a direct result of cc managements inability to engage in any management technique more sophisticated than divide and conquer.:ugh:

They're masters at it but with regard to the rather important issue of engagement it's very much a pyrrhic victory.........

Oh, you've yet to confirm that you're short haul crew operating on the a380?????????
